Just want to establish if I'm being a bit wet and what the general consensus is.

I've entered to do two dressage tests at a local competition centre tomorrow about 15 minutes up the road.

Ideal apart from the fact we've had a good few inches of snow and 2/3 of the journey is on a single track country lane which is ungritted. Drove up it this morning and my car was sliding all over the shop.

I've spoken to the centre and they're still running - I was hoping they would cancel and I could get my money back!! I'm not a millionaire and could really do with that £35!

Feel like they were implying I'm a bit wet for considering not going but it would be stupid to go right?

Towing on ice/frozen snow is just not worth the risk IMO.

If the competition centre are directly off a main road themselves, then I can see why they would want to run their event, and unfortunately for you its going to be v hard to get to...

However if they are on a minor road, then I think they will need to provide evidence that they have scraped and gritted the road themselves (with the assistance of a local dairy farmer perhaps) before many potential competitors will risk it.

Personally we really wanted to attend a WH competition tomorrow, but as the classes are first thing, and we have an hour and a half journey (mostly main rd, but either end is minor) I am fairly sure we will be staying at home.

Local ones are cancelled (local RC down the road, Munstead, Priory, T & P, prob Parwood too) only Merrist Wood SJ seems to be going ahead but warm up indoors in slots.
It's more the worry about not having safe parking (unable to salt enough space) that's making them cancel.
Earlier rain here flushed out snow, but more falling and sub zero temps before dawn forecasted, so local side roads could be treacherous.

OP, you and horses safety come 1st. I'd be willing to bet they cancel in the morning, but if they dont, you have only lost entry fee. You save on fuel and getting frozen, horse gets a duvet day :)

If in doubt, don't do it! If your gut feeling is that the road is not safe, much better to stay at home.

They may be ok but you have to factor in your route there. I wouldn’t do it if road conditions en route aren’t good. I’m waiting to see if bury Farm is going ahead on Sunday. I feel bad as it’s team quest and the first outing with this team but if it’s snowy I won’t go as our road is off a country lane and been icy this week.

It’s a 3.5 tonne lorry but I don’t really fancy that either.

The roads are much better but given we’re due more snow and it’s sub zero tonight it’s not worth risking it.

Just annoying when a load of other venues seem to have cancelled

Same here. Venue is running but I’ve been advised by everyone on our yard not to go due to the overnight freeze. Annoying as it’s sunny and bright where I am now but I know when I get to the yard it’ll be frozen so I’ll have done the right thing.

I lost a tonne of money last year during Beast from the East because i would not travel to venues but they did not cancel. Not worth the risk.

My foal was due to be delivered today but she is snowed in even if the roads were clear I wouldn't risk it I am astonished when I see people towing in high winds too its not worth the risk in my view
