went out for a ride with my friend and her mare is quite spooky so i normaly ride by the side of her where it is safe anyway we were riding down the road side by side and the road is ment for 2 cars and a red mondeo came flying up the rode (in the middle of the road) and was making some weird hand gesture at us and shoting but we couldnt hear what he said so we just laughed it off and didnt think anything off it, we rode on up the grimpston stud and mondeo man came flying by at lest 70mph and beeped his horn at us missed robbie by a few inchs now he didnt even give me chance the get behind my friends mare but we were riding close together and the road was also made for two cars to go on. lucky for us both horses are good in trffic and hardly batted and eye lid but it could of been a bad accident if they had freaked out. im sure i am witin my right to ride side by side? he didnteven give me chance to get behind my friends mare even if i wasnt. and it wasnt just us he nearly got he nearly went into the back of one of the school horses.
if i find him god help him stupid w**ker

Perhaps the guy was angry because you laughed at him (no excuse though). Shame you didn't manage to get his registration number, so you could report his reckless driving.

I am sure that the highway code states that two horses riding on a road should be two abreast so that you take up the same space as a car. Obviously within reason, ie if the road is narrow, ride one behind the other to give others a chance to pass. Your Mondeo Man was definitely in the wrong, and probably has a small w*lly.
Did you get his licence plate number? Driving like that should really be reported. You guys were lucky, but if he carries on driving like that, he's going to hit someone eventually, or cause a bad accident.

I've had ppl moaning at me before when out riding two abreast, & there was plenty of space for cars to pass! Nothing as bad as that though! You never ever see the police riding anything but two abreast, bet they don't do it at them! Some people are just w*nkers (sorry) that don't want to slow down for anyone! That why when i get someone that does slow down i always always thank them.

yes ive just checked the highway code and it says no more then two abreast as i thought, i always say thank you to people to slow down if he had an issue with us riding two abreast he could of said but he was too cowardly to confront us so chose to scare ower horses insted

count yourself lucky- i was riding out on the roads on my own, a horses width away from the curb, as you do, and this car came screeching round a corner beeping his horn, had to violently break to stop from crashing into me, luckily i was on my traffic proof pony! anyway so i was shouting at him and he wound down the window, i said "why the hell are you beeping your horn, what was i meant to do, jump over the hedge into the field to make room for you?!" and he just said a very rude word and drove off in a huff.

some people are idiots.

we had a bad incident a few years ago when i was out with my antie where a driver sped by so my antie swore at him and said a few bad words driver went to reverse into us and he nearly got her. he then got out the car to act all hard man with her and she walked the horse on into him and had him in a corner it was so funny he suddenly lost his bottle when a 17.3hh hunter was trying to stand on him next time he saw us out riding he slowed right down

some people are daft, there is a van driver near us that if you ask to slow down he speeds up, a lot! i tend to ride two abreast, because it makes cars slow down (she says!) and then move behind/infront when they actually want to pass

This is exactly why I do not hack on the road on my horse.

I would hate this to happen... It really get my back up... when people take their driving test they should be made to be aware of horses...... have you thought of putting stones in your pocket then throwing them
crazy.gif
!!!! That would make the bugger come back then you could take his number plate!!!

But unfortunately when you are on a horse and nowhere to run it can be difficult.

... how about a shot gun!! LOL (Joke)!!!

lol o i wish i had a bolder to throw at his car
it worries me as well that the kids at ower yard are not rode wise and when the ride two abreast the they do so in the middle of the rode and if he comes round the corner at major speed like he did today then he isnt going to stop in time for them. i could take YO shot gun with me he may slow down then

Think yourself lucky, a horse at my yard was hit by a car today, he's shaken and bruised and his owner 's confidence is knocked big style.
Be warned, if you throw stones and cause any damage it is criminal damage for which you can be arrested!

i used to do a lot of long reining with youngsters on a fairly busy road. 1 of us would always walk on the wrong side to slow cars right down. we always carried a whip so if they got too close or went to fast we'd smack the car with it. it makes a bang but we never dented a car. it makes the drivers jump cause they think they've hit something. or if we weren't quick enough with the whip we'd throw it.
i have probs with a few drivers who use the road near our farm a lot. 1 always goes past at at least 40 mph with a mobile stuck to her ear. i must take her reg sumtime and shop her in to the police lol another guy drives a large 4x4 who thinks we're invisible. thing is we're riding out with a 9 year old novice and my mates ex racer who is fine with cars but not fine at slowing his walk or stopping. he tends to do this sideways hop which isn't good near any vehicle, stationary or moving. people are either ignorant or uneducated when they do drive to fast etc past horses. on a plus note we see a white van guy reg who not only stops but switches his engine off until we're well past. the other extreme but def prefered (tho i know some horses jump at the sudden starting of an engine)

You are more than entitles to ride two abreast, you are then the width of a car which (should!) make drivers slow down, also, if you have a young or nervous horse you would typically have an older, more experienced one.

Unfortunately you were met with an ignorant, arrogant driver who has no time for horses! And a dangerous one at that to come back at you, beeping and shouting at that speed!

Good for you that your horses are so good in traffic!

This is one of the main reasons I carry a whip - to beat off badly behaved cars. Does make a nice crackind sound on the window. Only had to do it once & the guy looked like he was going to need fresh underwear! Mostly the drivers round here are very good, but there is always the occasional wrong un. More often I pull over to let someone past before we get to a line of parked cars & they stop & wait for me!

most of ower drivers are very good he has been the first bad one ive known around there and ive been up at the yard for a year, we did have a problem similar to this a few years back when a man in a 4x4 used to scare the children by nearly banging into them
i am going to ride out again today and go around the local villages see if i can spot his car and get his reg details
