Over a month ago, the feed delivery driver of Mitchells transport (Palletways), drove over my garden furniture, smashing one of the chairs of a matching set to pieces. He drove FORWARDS over it and it was well out of the way on a piece of lawn.

I rang them up and was told to email and that someone would call me back. No one called, and no one returned my email.

I emailed the feed company and they have chased them up from their end - no response. So I rang again and was told the man who I needed to speak to would call me back. And you guessed it - Nothing.:mad:

What do you think I should do?

Do they have a social media presence? Because if so, I'd go after them on Facebook / Twitter. Companies don't generally like that sort of bad PR.

Do you use Pure Feeds? I'm only asking as my last 2 deliveries did not come with Mitchells and the difference in the manners and carefulness of the drivers is amazing :)
Anyway, I would keep ringing palletways and hound them on FB, they have caused damage and they need to take responsibility! What has the driver had to say for himself at the time?

Yes, I use Pure Feeds.

The driver was not my normal one and was late (after 6 pm) and had been on since 6 am, so very tired! He admitted doing the damage and gave me the number to ring.

Send them an invoice for a replacement chair. Recorded.

Problem is, it's a matching set and you can't get them separately. Good idea though. I will invoice them for the set and if I don't get a response, will take them to the small claims I think.

Be very careful of going through your insurance company it could show as a claim against your records even if it is subrogated. Wrong but it can and does happen, as a broker I've had to battle the underwriters for clients where this has happened.

Speak to your home insurance and get them to do all the leg work.

That sounds like a good idea, thanks.

We already have a claim for tree damage, so our premiums have gone through the roof. :(

You are a Pure Feeds customer and the pallet company is one instructed by them

They should deal with this for you

Where I work we would withold payment from the courier until the matter was resolved to our and our customer's satisfaction

I agree with Welshd i work in smal couriers serices not palletways i might add but if we ever have any issues regarding damage the problems come through us to chase up the couriers and ensure they contact the customer. at the end of the day you arent the couriers customer your the feed merchants. keep at it they will come back to you.

Good luck i know how frustrating this can be but keep at your suppliers this is their job to chase it up for you in the first instance

Shout, scream, go to the depot and demand to see the manager!
Honestly I deal with these kind of couriers on a daily basis and they tend to have the attitude that if they ignore it for long enough it'll go away.
They're always flat out busy way past capacity so their priority is things that get money in rather than things that will cost them, it really is a case of 'the squeaky wheel getting the oil.'

I am presuming you got the drivers name & reg number of vehicle - maybe even a photograph ?

Contact feed company & palletways again by phone , followed up by email , fax or letter asking for a response in the next 5 or 7 days before further action is taken

Belongings have been damaged , driver should of reported accident , in my opinion claim would be responsibility of palletways as it was their vehicle & driver - feed company should contact them on your behalf & get all necessary insurance details required , depending on palletways insurance they may want to settle without involving insurance re costs

Thanks, everyone. I am going to contact the feed company again. I know it is only a chair but they should not get away with causing damage to people's property. It means that we can't now seat everyone outside!

Such a difference to 8 years ago when a different feed merchant (delivering directly from their store) knocked the corner off one of our roofs. I didn't even notice it had happened before I got a phone call apologizing and someone was up to do a very good repair the following day. :) Sadly they don't stock the feed I like but I am tempted to change feeds because of this!

Sorry, I misread your post. I use Pure feeds FEED, but order it from efeed.co.uk. I find it is usually cheaper. I may move to ordering it direct now and get my other stuff from elsewhere. Trouble is, efeed.co.uk usually sell the Marksway haylage I buy for my mare and the delivery is much cheaper than other online companies.

Just an update:

Mitchells are denying that the driver ran over the grass even though the driver himself took photographs of the smashed up chair. They say the absence of tyre marks prove this. So why would he take photographs in the first place if nothing happened? It was June and the grass was very dry so there would have been no tracks. Then they blame us because we were seeing him reverse back. He drove FORWARDS over the chair!

Anyway, efeed, as usual are going above and beyond with their customer service and sorting it all out for me. I have always found their service to be outstanding, and this time it has been brilliant. :)
