Feeling very angry with myself this morning....

Had my trailer test at 8.30... and failed.

Totally my fault, messed up the reversing part and panicked. Frustrated as examiner said everything else was about spot on, only got 3 minors. Just re-booked and no tests available for a fortnight.

RANT OVER!

Any tips for the next one would be welcomed!?!:mad::mad:

Hey don't worry. I have been towing for years and pride myself on my reversing skills because I always had to park the trailer in a particularly tight space. However every now and then I get it horribly wrong, and who knows the reason, although you can bet it will be when my husband is watching me.

Don't worry I am sure you will pass next time. Just try to keep practising. At least next time you will know the format of the test...

Thanks guys.

I have done it so many times, i think it was nerves. And it doesn't help its the first thing you have to do.

Hoping to sail through next time!

Of course you will be gutted, you'll no doubt pass next time though, try to stay positive for your next test and remember you won't be the only person to fail on that same thing this morning, loads of people will have.

Good luck for next time.

Poor you, good luck next time!

once a few years ago when I was between jobs I did some driving work for the brick yard that my Hubby worked at. turned up one day to see the trailer being hooked up to the flat bed truck, YIKES!!! After some swift lessons from Hubby I was off, I did fine until I turned in to the wrond drive and had to turn around to get myself out, could I manage it? Could I heck as like!!! I got myself in to such a tizz, luckily the owner of the house I pulled in to was home and regularly towed a trailer so he offered to manouvere it out for me!! Talk about red faced!!!

Take it as a run through you know what to expect now....nerves will be better the second time. In the mean time practice the reversing bit so much in the next two weeks that you could do it standing on your head. You know how the test is set up so just practice.

I do feel for you guys that need to do the test, i did my HGV while in the army so don't have to do it.
Good luck for the next test and keep us up dated.

Make sure you keep to the sme standard next time. When I taught full time I hated having people who just failed it, next time they were so focused on gatting that bit right, something else happened & they just failed again. Not being a pesimist, just saying remember to keep all your (obviously good) standards up next time & concentrate until the end of the test, don't relax after the reverse manoeuvre.

These things happen, often on something that is normally strong. Put it down to experience, draw confidence from the fact the examiner thought the rest of your drive was good, then focus on the next one. You wont quite be as nervous next time, you've had a run through so you know whats expected & there isn't the pressure of trying to pass it first time.

Good luck, remember to post your next result up. Sure everyone will be keeping everything crossed for you.

I failed mine first time too. Don't worry, you'll be fine. You passed the hard part with only three minors and you know you can do the reversing so just keep calm and you'll do brilliantly. Just think, at least now you know you can pass it :)

Don't worry about it. I passed on the 3rd time! I also failed first time on the reversing purely because I panicked. The second time I took a very tight corner a bit too close and the trailer wheels went over the kerb very slightly but thats enough to fail!

The key is to stay calm. I didnt tell anyone when my 3rd try was, only my boyfriend knew so there was far less pressure and it worked!

Thanks everyone!

I've managed to rebook for Monday afternoon so not as long to wait thankfully.

I will keep calm and as i know what to expect i don't think i'll be nervous. Hopefully it'll be a pass next time. Thanks again for the kind words and support!

Glad i'm not the only one who stuffed it up first time around. :o

I passed mine second time, the first time i panicked on my reverse as the test centre. They do the hgv plating certificates at the same building and they have to wait for you to do your manouvre before they can get round so i had a line of hgv drivers all sat there watching me which freaked me out!

Good luck for next time and you could always try the bach herbal calming remedy, you drop it obn your tongue, it worked for me second time (just wish i'd used it first time!)

:-)

If it makes you feel better I failed on my birthday and absolutely sobbed my eyes out on the drive home. I've never failed anything before and it was a bit of a shock!

And then I had to spend 6 hours more in the car to go to Devon to visit my father. On my birthday.

Because it was my birthday about a million people phoned me up to ask about it and wish me happy birthday too. I didn't tell anyone about the second one

Good luck. You'll be ace :)

Haha oh dear poor you! Thats awful. I think i would of turned my phone off! I nearly cried but managed to contain myself today. I'm not good at accepting i've failed at something AT ALL. Onwards and upwards.... roll on Monday

Aww not suprised your gutted, just think of it as a practice run!
Forget about it or it will bug you, good luck for next time and let us know how you do :D

Hiya,
Did mine a few months ago in my training i often go the reversing terribly wrong but remember you have two shunts. It might be worth practising going from where you may end up if you got it wrong if you see what I mean? Helped my confidence a bit.

Thanks Lizness, I took the two shunts but still managed to F it up! I could of kicked myself. I didn't go far enough forward to get straight to come back again if you know what i mean. Definitely putting it down to experience, got another lesson this weekend just to go over it again. I've been ok in lessons but always struggle a little with the bit where you've come across from inside cone B. I get the trailer in, then struggle getting the Landrover straight whilst still remaining parallel to the cones. I'm sure I'll take one shunt next time anyway but i'll have the sense to go further than i did today so i can get back in the box correctly.

dont worry you wont have been the first and wont be the last :)
I did pass my trailer test first time, but failed my HGV twice (passed 3rd time), and like you it was on the reverseing both times (which is the exact same reversing test as the towing), like you I panicked both times, in my training I was perfect and spot on. But I remember just loosing it when I sat in the cab and the examiner told me to start.... I remember my leg shaking on the ecslater... it was horrible, I just could not get my leg to calm down!!

Again like you, when I was out driving on the roads for my test it was perfect with no minors... got so angry with myself, and then when I did the exact same thing on the second test... I felt such a failure, I didnt even bother with the second part for the drive on the roads :(, I had to wait about 3 weeks in between for a re-test and a lot of money I wasted in my eyes for failing, so I sympathise with you, and the very best of luck on your re-test x

I failed the first time too.

Somebody changed their mind going round a round about and didnt take the exit they were going for and I had already pulled out woops but I only got three minors too :)

I resat a few weeks later and passed with three minors.

Have to say paid 700 quid for a piece of paper and plastic to say I can legally do something I have done for years without ;) and at least my old licence was in colour my new one is black and white photo :p

Its blummin hard. I tried it and failed and couldnt get the hang of the going the opposite way to reversing. I spent 1k on it and gave up in the end and bought a 3.5 ton horsebox. But good luck and keep going. Im sure you'll find the reversing easier than me!
