maybe its just me that thinks this is such a stupid thing to do but am fuming, was just in the car park at the yard waiting for someone, and outside our gate theres a foot path that we have to go on as our fields run off it, there was a girl from our yard grazing her horse in hand and next minute these 2 girls come trotting up from under the bridge down the footpath and right past the girl grazing her horse and out onto the estate, i thought that was bad as what if the horse had flipped but anyway didnt think nothing of it untill some one said they knew the riders and they were from m?"%$*e a yard with 6 confirmed cases of strangles, its about 25 minutes hacking distance away. we get on really well with all our neighbouring yards but thought we should ring them and say we would rather they didnt do it and the yard manager there said that they would put any horse at risk! and what makes it worse the mares were all turned out in the field just after the bridge so we are hopping to god they never touched anything. i just cannot believe people can be so irresponsable

the sooner strangles is a notifiable disease the better
that way those sort of idiots hacking would be prevented and the number of strangles cases would be public knowledge and give more impetus to getting better at fighting this disease.

Thats terrible. When our yard had strangles, it was made very clear that we were not to go near other yards with the horses - not that I think any sensible person would, but obviously some people seem to think putting themselves out for a few months to prevent spreading the disease is too much.
