Got I am fuming. I went to a sj competition this afternoon for 6y/os and under- I took Friday for Robert as he is trying to qualify her for BYEH and I thought a nice course plus the "show" atmosphere would only add to her experience. I did the 4yo class and this woman solely beat her poor horse silly with a whip when it refused the same fence twice. She was asked to leave the ring and then the show, and on the way back to the box she absolutely leathered the poor thing. Now you lot know I am not the most sensitive being and yes I am known to give mine a good tap for a cheeky stop, but this horse really wanted to jump it bless, just wasnt brave enough, I felt so mad with her.

Sounds like she'l possibly ruin what could be a good horse in the making.

Why do people who haven't got the patience ride a four year old. Does she not realise that she could well be responsible for how he regards jumping for the rest of his life.
ARGHHHHH

if it was affiliated then surely if she was asked to leave the show and the ring it means that the stewards have her name, etc
did anyone else witness her behaviour ?

were the stewards informed ?

It wasnt an affiliated thing, just a young horse class, so whether they had her details, to be honest they didnt seem to bothered, which bothered me, a lot of people use it as a warm up for the BYEH circuits so perhaps she will be known and hopefully stopped from competing.

I hope someone does recognise her as I really can't stand people beating horses for any reason and even more so under those circumstances.
I can remember a few years ago at a show in Leek and there was a small showjumping event on.
A horse/pony had shite right in front of a jump and the next horse in the ring slipped on the approach and must have been frightened as it then refused twice.
The horse was hit each time ( looked like frustration hits to me) Eventually it was disqualified so the rider decided to give it a thrashing as they left.
I was only around 15 at the time and it really angered me.
Now I have my own horses it has made me even more protective of them and I hate to see them being abused. Especially as horses place so much trust in us humans and yet time and time again there are those who think it is fine to abuse that trust

I do get mad with it because my coloured has been through a good beating before I bought him, obviously from a young age and it has had a lasting effect on him manners from the ground, he is a shy horse and rarely shows much affection- I believe through lack of trust. I can get a 100%more out of him now then I did 2years ago but never the less a horse like oshk who really wouldnt put a foot out of line and bless his heart never ever stops at a fence unless there is something evry wrong doesnt need a beating.

its makes me angry aswell! a horse doesn't have to jump for you or even let you ride it the only reason they do is to please you! at most shows i go to now there are people beating there horses for stopping! i went to a show on sunday a this horse stopped twice so got eliminated and the rider turned there whip upside down and wacked it so hard about 3 times it makes me sick! my old pony was abused before his owners had him he it took 2 years for him to fully trust me again! grrrrrr its soooo horrible! also an instructor tried to make me beat my youngster over a filler! i gave her a little smack beacause she was beinmg naughty and she shouted at me to thrash her i obviously didn't listen and she eventually jumped it! i hate that women now and don't listen to a word she says if i get her at PC!

And of course the horse is SO going to look forward to going to a show and jumping next time - not. Some people truly don't deserve to have horses. Witch, I hope she gets her comeuppance. Generally what goes around, comes around. Hope in this particular case that it comes round quickly...

My horse refused at a show a few weeks ago and I fell off. Once I'd caught her at least 3 people said to me "hope you're going to give her a good beating for that". Er, no? By the time I'd caught up with her she'd probably forgotten what she'd done and what would getting on and smacking her have done? It really amazed me that so many people said this to me!

I went to the bath and west show on 1st june. For m and m classes, particularly highlands. The 3 year old colt that won the championship was handled by a man who constantly jabbed his mouth, punched him in the face and wacked and I mean wacked this poor pony on his "manhood" just because he was doing what a 3 yr old would normally do. I came home, dicovered who owned him and sent a very sharp email saying that if I ever saw him doing it again, I would report him for cruelty. No reply to date

Good for you Dunthing.

I witnessed a similar thing a a show i went to years ago, young girl about 13yrs old on green horse, expecting it to jump 3.9 corse, just too much for the horse, he was petrified you could see it in his eyes.
She was eliminated, i caught her on the car park whipping the horse kicking it in the stomach wilst wearing spurs and jabbing it in the mouth, i stood there for a few seconds then i flew at her and gave her a peice of my mind, mummy then got involved so i told her some home truths about her presious little daugther, im pleased to say that her mother was furious and gave the girl a right dressing down

Juts to be sure she got what she deserved, i reported her to the show organisers and the BHS

Some kids just dont have any respect what so ever for their animals, shouldnt be allowed near them

Excellent- wish i'd been there to see that

so many people have no respect for their animals at these shows and treat them like machines to win rosettes for them without recognising that they are in fact living creatures who try so hard for us. I don't think kids should be allowed to carry whips at all.
