We are going to our first affiliated show on may 11th at Arena UK its a pony premier. I am a junior with a 144cm pony and I was looking to do the BN and maybe the 90cm open but on the description for BN it says ponies can only compete in one section. What does this mean? Does it mean I can only compete in one class? Please help explain what this means:oops:

I didn't do 90cm open could I do a discovery or do I have to get all my dc (qualify second rounds go to final etc) for bn first

It’s usually the same class split into 2 sections BN and 90cm open if you aren’t eligible for BN)
 
The single class is split - either the pony has less than 150 point or not. Both classes are 80cm on this schedule but the class is split and only ponies with less than 150 points will qualify for second rounds. The rest compete effectively HC But it is a good experience for a novice rider on a more experienced pony without disadvantaging those who the class is supposed to promote.

You can do more than one class on the schedule. Just not compete in that one section within that one class.
 
when you say 'that one section' do you mean the open section you can't do another class after or do you mean the JD section which is the section I'll be in as the pony has just been registered.
 
We don't jump ponies, we are in the horse section but I presume the classes & rules will be similar. You will need to jump in the British Novice section. There may well be an Open section running along side the Novice class. This happens so that some of the older ponies which have probably jumped larger classes in their younger years can drop down to smaller classes in later life so that they still have smaller classes that they can jump in. It wouldn't be fair for very experienced ponies to be jumping against new/novice ponies. Although the classes run along side each other there will be two results, one for BN ponies & another result for the open ponies. You will enter either one section or the other, you cannot be in both sections. Following that class if you want to jump in the next class of course you can......... does this clarify things for you?

So looking at the schedule, there is this listing:
Class 14 Pony British Novice Championship - First Round
Class 14b 80cm Open

This is class 14, it will run as one class (same course etc) but when it comes to the results it will be split into two sections - section A for those eligible for British novice, and B for those who are not (usually ponies with too many points). As its one class over one course, you can only enter section A OR section B.

However you can enter class 14 (section A or section B) AND class 15, 16 and 17 if you wanted to (and are eligible).

It is worth reading the rulebook and checking that you are eligible for each class in advance (the secretary will probably not have all the answers as there are so many different classes)
