I worked so hard to keep my little tb in work over winter so that he would be fit and able to do stuff this spring when the other mare is just coming into work and now he has selfishly developed a hoof abscess and I can't ride him at the sponsored ride tomorrow!

He has been so good and I love riding him, he is kind and sweet and he will (eventually) jump most jumps after a few trys. He has only really started jumping after being a flat racer. I feel so confident on him and even if he does little silly bucks I feel pretty safe.

I was really looking forward to taking him gently around the 7 mile ride tomorrow and trying some of the jumps with a lead from my friend and even took him xc schooling last weekend. Now he has to have a couple of weeks off and I am gutted.

I know I'm throwing my toys out of the pram but my other options are limited to- retired, unfit lame one (wouldn't really ride him but he's there!), unfit, fat hairy bucking one who is just back into work on the ground but been ridden yet and I might be bucked off repeatedly (also not fair to take her) or the recent acquisition (sp?) mare who is quite whizzy, pops a small jump but I have no idea how she will behave as have only once cantered her with another horse and had to pull up as she was dropping her head and I wimped out.

I am a wimp really I know I just need to man up and bloomin well get on with it. I will take said mare for a canter today with the lanky one (being ridden by nice sharer) and see how many times I can fall off.

Can I have some cake? Or maybe there is some room in Stazaan's Whelk bucket? :(

They always get ill or injured at an awkward time don't they, I am sure he will get better soon though, and there will be plenty more sponsored rides for you both to do.

He sounds a lovely boy and you sound like you have found your perfect match in him.

Hope his abscess feels better soon.

Lemon drizzle or coffee & walnut...:D

Poor you, I know how you feel, it always seems to happen to me too; my old boy never had anything wrong with him until we were due to go out anywhere!

I have also broken my lovely palomino competition horse & am feeling very miserable that I am going to miss at least one season - maybe two.

Take the mare & a michelin-suit - and ENJOY!

the hip flask and whizzy mare sounds like the best option to me. ;) i'm sure once you and her both settle into it you'll be fine and have a great day out.

much love to your poorly one!
xx

Lemon drizzle please!!! I took her out today and she was actually pretty good. We went a bit sidewaysie at one point and nearly ended up in what I suspect was a ditch but when she was cantering she was fine. I even jumped her myself (after watching crash test dummy sharer first of course- I'm not stupid)!

She was a star and I am actually looking forward to it again now. Gave 3-legged Copper some apples from you guys but it didn't cheer him up very much :(

That sucks but tell me about it!! I was meant to be going to RAF Halton tomorrow - Horse got an abcess well over a month ago.... I thought never mind could get him fit enough to take it easy but oh no he had other plans and tried to kill himself (literally) so had to have more time off work and now has some stiches in his leg... Friend also in similar position 3 abcesses in as many months so cant do anything :o!!

Whizzy pony will be excellent and you will have lots of fun tomorrow - even if I have to run round behind you with the [broken] lunging whip to ensure forward movement at all times! :D

Aww I hope your boy feels better soon, send him some *hugs* from me :) I'd say take the mare tomorrow and see how you get on, you'll never know what she'd be like if you don't try it :) xxxx

Feel for you, we are in the same boat at the moment, no more pus coming out of the hoof but as he has 3 shoes on currently and c**p feet hes really pottery still :(. got dressage test in 2 weeks, hes had 2 weeks off already hes going to be a complete livewire!
