so disappointed....lost shoe

bought pony in last night and realised he had lost a shoe. that would have been ok apart from on sunday the whole yard is going on a christmas ride that we have been planning since the summer. farrier is coming anyway on monday so i rang him to see if he could come sooner but is van is at the garage with an oil leak. sounds stupid but i could have cried! anyway what do i do now? do i attempt to remove other shoe which im not keen on doing, lead him in hand or ride just up the road and back as some of the others are not going too far?
pointless post really but needed to tell people that understand!!

Do you all have the same farrier on the yard? If not ask around today and see if one of the other farriers will pop a shoe on for u!

no we all have different ones. there are only a few of us and most have been done recently.

Don't panic! Go out and get him an Easyboot/Old Mac Boot. They cost about 40 quid, however they are useful to have in reserve for the next timke you loose a shoe at an inconvenient moment. They are also a great item for the first aid box should your horse injure its foot.

You measure up for the correct size, strap the boot on and ride off as usual. RThey are designed for barefoot horses, so they are up to the toughest ridden work. My boy lost a shoe a couple of days ago (the others are all out of work for various reasons like fractured splint bones at the mo), been desperately trying to get a farrier but he can't make it until the new year now

Equiboot!! Or easy boot!! Mine often looses shoes at the most inconvenient times so I slip on a boot and we're off! Have a good one!!!

thanks guys didn't think of a boot. but i have no idea where im going to get one between now and sunday as we don't have any big horsey stores near us. i'll have to get my thinking cap on!!

Is your farrier based at a yard? If he is could you take the horse to him?

he is about 30 miles from me and i don't have transport. i have checked on robinsons and rideaway but they can't deliver til after xmas. ebay don't have any for less than £80 and ill prob never use them again so can't justify buying them!! do you think it would be ok to lead him for a few miles?

either you could get one of those easiboots (or whatever they're called)

or you could search online for a good farrier in your area and see if you could book with him/her.
