I hope you all don't mind, but I've been an idiot and need to talk and let it out.

My mare is lame at the moment, and a friend offered to let me ride her mare instead. Rode the mare saturday in her presence. She worked in a lovely shape but is far more resistant and heavy on the hand on the left rein. She's known for being strong. The girl was very happy with my riding and offered the mare to me again today. So I rode today while girl was not there. Did an hour on the mare, lots of canter work, and lots on the left rein. I walked her, let her stretch out, and then hosed her down cos she was sweaty.

I obviously completely overdid it cos got a call from my friend to say this evening the mare is stretching her head and neck in a wierd way and at first wouldn't eat. Now she's eating thank god. But I obviously 'broke' the horse and feel sooooo awful and embarrased. I would be livid if my horse was not returned to me in the exact condition she was received in. God I'm such an idiot! She is being so nice about it though, but I deserve to be yelled at. I shouldn't have worked her so hard when she's not used to being worked in a shape. Grrrrr, I'm a moron!!
Thanks for letting me vent.

We won't even go there...

My friend has 3 ponies though however, and when she went away for the week this girl next door was looking after them, having had her own horse before etc. She ended up rather than giving them 3 small handfuls each of feed ( i know its vague) but 3 whole scoops

Queue one of her ponies being chronic with laminitus

ah don't be worried...the mare was in all liklihood 'stiff' from being worked properly rather than 'broken'

this is why i don't like riding other peoples horses though i have to say ...too much potential for doing something wrong

Don't worry it could be much much worse, as diggerbez says it is probably just stiff and atleast the owner is being understanding.
