Today I had booked a jumping lesson with Ian Wright, as my mare won't box I was prepared to hack there (1 hour), 1 hours lesson and the hours hack back, even if it rained all day. Brought her in from the field this morning and she has cut the inside of her back leg which is all puffy and sore and cut her knee. So have had to cancel lesson.

Then thought I would try the loading again, got lovely quiet, good to load pony into box but my mare started neighing and neighing and trying to barge the stable door which then upset quiet pony who ran back out the box. In conclusion it is almost impossible for me to keep trying this on my own. It is doomed to fail so why did I even bother to book a lesson at £38 when I am never going to get my horse to load on my own. Doom and Gloom.

Take your partitions out - open both doors of the trailer and spend the rest of the day walking through it. Its a small step but its a start and your day wont be wasted.

Sorry to hear that you had to cancel your lessons - horses are always like that. You plan something and then something goes wrong. Practice loading instead

Echo Sparklet. Dont waste the day, use it to practice. Feed her in the trailer if you need to.

Flippin horses are such a pain sometimes.

you can sort this - don't get down hearted.
i agree with the others - take out the partition. put jockey door side against a natural barrier so you only have one side to th9ink about and then walk in and off over and over again until she's bored. then start waiting and counting to 3 and then walk out. keep going increasing the time you wait. if she's going well you can try to stop, tigh up and groom. give her her dinner and breafast in there - so it just becomes part of life. then try keeping the side ramp up but the top open (you could do with a friend then to open it when you want to leave). you will get there. good luck

These things always happen with horses!! Mine always used to inflict life threatening injuries to themselves just prior to a lesson, show or me going on holiday. I have now stopped telling them anything!

Definately take this time to practise loading. And befor eyo uknow it, your horse will be loading like a pro!

Thanks for your encouraging replies, my horse will walk in the box to be fed in but as soon as ramps go up she panics. I have moaned about this a lot in previous posts!
