I have liz from Mill Saddlery coming out in a few weeks.

I have said what i have and that i am definatly going to get a different dressage and that while she is there i might like to try a few jumping to get a feel in difference with my WOW.

Is there any particular brands i should steer clear of ie. albion/stubben.....and others that i should favour?

Also to those who have had her out before what kinda brands did she have with her and what was she like?

Just so i feel a little prepared as i hate saddle fittings.

Liz has always brought a big selection with her when shes come out to me. We tried loads and loads on my tbx! I have a Prestige jump saddle for my tbx and a ideal vsd for welsh cob.
Shes very helpful, and i spent lots of time riding and making sure i was happy before i decided.

My personal preference is to avoid the two brands you've mentioned. There are lots of lovely makes out there but it depends on your price range. New, at a reasonable price (i.e. roughly £1K each), not only can you not beat ideals, buit you won;t find much else to try either. Everything seems to be either much cheaper or about £500 more expensive - that was what I found last month when trying new dressage and jump saddles. I also found a distinct lack of second hand saddles!

Thanks...they are the two brands i was def. going to avoid!

i find saddles so stressful....and although i have no issues with my WOW (i just don't get ons o well in the dressage version) i thought for arguements sake i may as well try a few jump saddles at the same time...as costwise there probs won't be much difference.

totally agree with SpottedCat. i would avoid the two makes you've mentioned, i would also avoid for e.g. close-contacts if you intend to hack out in it too... they're really not designed for that.
can't beat Ideals for the money imho. also, they will do them exactly as you want.

can i ask why people seem to dislike albions?

I'd say the only prob with mine is its a tad on the heavy side but twigs huge and im only small so I kind of figured it would be ok!

Have to say am an Ideal convert after buying my Springbok, really is a lovely saddle

I have an Albion dressage saddle which I love and G seems to go well in, but I am a bit cautious about recommending them after all the horror stories i have heard... Barnsby have some gorgeous dr. saddles too and would be what i would be looking at for a new dr. saddle.

Same question from me..... why avoid?

I have recenlty bought an Albion kontact single flap XC saddle off ebay and it is absolutely lovely... really comfy and a great fit!! I also had a legend XC a few years ago again I loved it.

I have yet to hear anything good about Stubben or Harry Dabs saddles.

However, my saddler says that on the right horse, an Albion is the perfect fit. My Albion certainly fits my horse very well - the saddler even had a big grin (most unusual!) when she said how perfectly it fits him. 3 months in and he's a much happier horse in that saddle than he was in the old one, paces much improved. I think you do have to be careful as they have long points and if they dig in rather than hugging the shape of the shoulder/side, you're in big trouble... And the shape of the tree doesn't suit many horses it seems.

My only complaint with the Albion is that it got incredibly sweaty underneath at a sponsored ride in May and the leather seems to have spoilt on the sweat flaps.
