So, we're off to Norton Heath last night for a bit of SJ. My turn to drive as my friend drove last time. Load them onto trailer, and off we go. About 20 mins down road, on dual carriageway just gone over bridge (quite windy) trailer starts shaking from side to side really badly, initially thought had flat tire or tow bar had come away or something! Managed to pull over to lay by, but not straight away as was on dual carriageway. Me and friend jump out, both horses still standing in trailer, but Jack is covered in blood and cuts and gashes all across his face!!! Blood pouring everywhere! Poor little thing was shaking and sweating! Know it wasn't other horse and they in love with each other! Anyway, worst cuts seem to be inbetween his ears and under his forelock, thats where most blood coming from! So, can't do much on side of road and he had calmed down and was happily munching his haynet again! So, got driving again and headed home, called vet, and she arrived at yard bout 45 mins later!

After sedation, a good old clean up he doesn't need stitches but he's really made a mess of his face - looks like he's been beaten up! So, 2 danilon a day for a week, a shot of v strong anti-inflamatory (he's gonna have one hell of a head ache) and a course of anti-biotics vet thinks he'll be fine!

The big question is how he did it, he's the best traveller every, v laid back and nothing bothers him! I think he's snatched some hay from hay net, and as he's taken it he's lifted his head into air (he does shake his head alot when he eats) and smacked his head on vent in roof of trailer, prob stunned himself, then paniced and thats why he's ended up with grazes all over his face - will try and take some piccies tonight, but he looks terrible - and the best bit, we've had to put his forelock into a pony tail, to let the cuts dry out - he looks hilarious!! poor thing!

No competing this weekend for me, not for the next week or so, can't even get a bridle on him, he's gonna be so brusied!

Poor Jack!

Somewhat off topic really but i had to smile to myself when i read this... Im assuming the horse in your sig and avatar is him?

I have the most accident prone horse in the world also (well he was in the UK... touch wood nothing over here so far).. ironically he's both a Jack and a fleabitten grey:-

He also had an accident last year while travelling.. but in a box rather than a trailor. Again, he's travelled all his life and travels 100% but for some reason, he went down and ended up covered in cuts and bruises.

Hope your boy is ok... but just thought i'd share

Thank you 'jumpthemoon'. As he is the way he is, v laid back, I'm hoping that our next outing will be un-eventful and he'll have forgotten about his little accident! He travelled home perfectly after the accident and got off fine, so fingers crossed he'll be ok! Am thinking of buying a pole guard though just to be on safe side, although on Robinson's they are 30 quid!!!! Isn't that a tad expensive when I could do a make shift job with some sponge myself!!! Yes thats him in my avatar and siggie! Whow they look similar! Jack to is v accident prone (if there's an injury to be had then he'll find it) - perhaps it's a fleabitten grey thing - or maybe they're related somewhere down the line - who knows!

Thanks for sharing piccie - there's something about fleabitten greys - even if they involve loads of cleaning!
