Izzy has been on box rest for various reasons for the last 10months. We got the bottom of her lameness in Sept after an mri scan, she had a tear in her DDFT deep within her hoof. On Friday she had another MRI and although its not completely healed, Peter & Mia at Hirds, Halifax have said she needs to get back into work. She was so good at the vets and had to have an injection into her navicular bursa as there was a bit of inflammation there causing her a little discomfort. After all this time in the stable shes been an absolute angel, shes hanoverian/tb and I would never have expected her to be so chilled for her breeding. I can start her riding her again next weekend after she gets her egg bars back on tomorrow and a little handwalking off the flat yard surface. Shes such a star and special girl and Im looking forward to her being a horse again. She wont see a field until spring if all goes well and when shes fit and strong enough to deal with a frolic without hurting herself.

Just wanted to share this, Im so proud of her - shes a fab mare!!

That's fab news. Really great that you can start work together. Extra pats to Izzy for being such a good girl - when she could easily have been a very naughty one!!

Thank you ladyearl, its not really sunk in yet. I have been her carer for so long now that the thoughts of being her rider again are quite alien. Our bond is so strong now and when people ask me if I'm worried about getting back on board after so longI have to say I havent really considered it.

I almost felt like that after the 6 week ice age, but I also felt, as you say, that spending more time as a "carer" or maybe "caterer" in our case has really re-inforced our bond and I can honestly say she seemed as happy as me to be back on the road. Mine is a fizzy cob tho!

Your type ime love to work and I'm sure she'll be delighted when she sees tack coming back out.

Enjoy and I really hope it goes well.. look forward to seeing the "I had a great day" posting!

Dont know what she will think when she sees the bridle. Fortunately she loves her food and thats kept her interested for the last 10months or so. Having said that, I do think she will be a tad excited to go off the yard though she was a nappy so and so when I got her 4 years ago. Be interesting to see if that behaviour rears its ugly head again but we are having company for the first outing, I have booked one of the other girls to babysit us.

I will post next weekend if I survive the maiden ride!! Imagine she will sleep like a baby afterwards, walking up a slope will be sure to tire her out, either that or she will run on adrenalin. Fortunately she is very good with traffic so we wont have that issue.

Really pleased for you and Izzy! Next weekend will soon be here for you to get on board again after all these months! All the hard work and hand walking has paid off. At least you have kept riding fit on other horses!

Hello you, have a good night last night? Hope you got to ride today though its been cold. Taps frozen again - curse!!! Izzy was funny today, she was trying to nibble the bandage off where they put the injection in on here heel. I was told if could come off anyway and when I took it off and massaged her fetlock, she pulled the funniest of faces with pleasure. She then had a nibble herself, think the cotton wool irritated her. She was confused though as not been out of her stable all weekend, had to stay in. Can come out tomorrow and Johns coming to put her shoes on at 1pm then she can have a walk. Am prepared for a buck on the lead rope, shes bound to be a little fresh.

Im nervous about whats in store but so pleased for her. Think I'll need sedating when she gets to go in the field.!!! x

Thats great news about Izzy!

You'll be chuffed to bits getting on her next weekend. She's been so good about all the boxrest she's had. Not sure my mare would have been so chilled! I'll be calling up a week on Monday for a natter and will have a couple of rugs for you.

Had a good night thanks! Too good a night my feet and head hurt!! lol!!

Not ridden today but rode yesterday and he was fab!! Much better than his yippee moment last weekend!! I'm sure Izzy will behave but better to be safe by going out with company for the first time.... unlike I did!! Ooops.

Say hi to John for me and tell him how well Flin is walking after having his feet sorted!

Will have to pop over to see you both soon.

Thanks all and look forward to seeing you Mrs Magic, I will add your rugs to the pile Ive got, been busy with that and had a good month in January. Some smelly ones - yuk!!!

Mrs M - Im not good with technology so OH will have to give me a lesson on putting pics on here. Will give it a go.

Mrs Flin - when you get over a certain age one has to watch one's alcohol intake. If I overdo it I end up hugging the loo all night - usually end up asleep on the floor and wake up freezing. Be nice to see you again. Will say hi to John for you and let him know how well your boy is doing. Iz will be in better shape soon hopefully, her weight has stayed stable and shes feeling good I think. Just had an awful thought though - its neary a year ago when she chucked me off in the arena during a mad mare moment - think she was coming into her first full blown season!!
Think I might be digging out the old body protector!!! x
