So how do you apply Absorbine Show Sheen to actually get a shine?!

I followed the instructions....spray on, work in with hand and stroke hair flat....and she looked absolutely no different to usual! No shine...nothing :confused:

Whats the best application technique?! :o
 
Sorry to say but the best way to get a good shine is some elbow grease and good grooming, the only thing these sorts of thing are any good for are putting in tails making them tangle free!!!
 
To a certain extent I agree...however, this product is raved about by many people (including a pro show producer on here!)....

So there must be a 'technique' to get that extra shine....:confused:
 
Ah thanks martlin!! I knew there had to be another way as so many people love the absorbine!!

justjasper....b***er...I've just paid out £13 on the absorbine so will just have to get it right!!
 
The best shine comes from within through good feeding (lots of oil) and good grooming, however it can be excentuated through show sheen. Absorbine is the best I've used. I spray the horse fully when wet after a bath (not the saddle area!) and then on the day just spray on and brush with a flicky brush.

Yes...all of that done as a matter of course, but for shows a bit extra is worth trying for!!

I'll try the spray after bath...when you spray on the day, do you leave it to dry a little before brushing?
 
I bath the horse spray on the absorbine put a fleece rug on until almost dry and then ride or lunge and then keep rugged, shine is brilliant.
 
learn something every day.... wonder if using it on a gray might encourage the stable stains to come off a little easier!
 
Have you tried riding her through the car wash at ASDA on the wash wax and wheels clean and blow dry option :rolleyes: cleans the tack as well, plus you get a nice shiny helmet ;)
 
we use ALVA products, better than absorbine/canter etc and is natural.

spray on after bath and rug over top. next morning, flick over with clean dandy bush, spray all over then brush with body brush. when dry buff with a clean tea towel or similar.

gets ours looking shiny anyway :)
 
I don't use it necessarily for the shine - I find it's a fab conditioner and makes the tail totally tangle free without having to tug a brush through it. Also on my boy's mane as it's completely unruly with a slight curl which fuzzes up in the rain!

I also use it on stain-prone places every now and then as it makes brushing dirt off so much easier.

No, for the ultimate shine, it's elbow grease every time I'm afraid!!!
 
Spray it on when the coat is still wet/damp from being bathed, smooth the coat down, and it gives a really brilliant shine. It lasts for about a week and stops dust and stable stains.

Oh, and a word of warning- don't put it anywhere near where the saddle goes, otherwise it may possibly slip!....
 
I think the stuff if bloody useless myself, just makes the hair of slippery.

Get feeding Argo VIT MIN you'll see a bloom within weeks, a 20 minute groom twice a day, if you need an extra hand for added wow shine use Lincoln Total Groom, jobs a gud un. :)
 
I prefer the Alva products - no silicon.

Stinky is fairly glossy as he is fed black sunflower seeds and linseed, but on show days I wash him, then spray with Alva Sparkle - their coat conditioner, brush out the coat and put on his lycra body to keep the coat flat and it also polishes it.

On the day, I spray him with Alva Gleam about an hour before the class, then polish him with a sheepskin mit. Even his white areas are shiney.

For the final touch, I use Supreme Sparkle on his mane, forelock and tail which really shows the long hair off and if on grass with no dust will also pop a bit on his feather.

If you want to keep it cheap and avoid silicon products, then a tiny bit of pig oil in hot water is good, but only if the coat is very clean or it brings dirt to the surface - excellent for evening performances to have them really stand out.
 
i use the NAF show shine works nicely i use it the day before after bathing him then rug him up put in the stable next morning get a hot flannel and rub over him and the add more shine brush with a body brush, go to show brush with body brush, spray on shine then go over te top with a shining mitt works nicely :)
