So how do you get you and your horse all shiny for a show?

As im standing here colouring in my white jods with chalk where there are various little stains (thanks likits!) i was wondering what other people do to get show presentable- especially those showing ponies who look like theyve come out of a plastic wrapper!

so any hints/tips/unusual tricks you do?
i will be rubbing a bit of leather balsam on my tack to make it look clean in a minute.. as i forgot whoops !

I just use horse shampoo, NAF show shine and a bit of chalk on their bodies and legs and then Canter mane and tail conditioner on their manes/tails
I think the results are pretty acceptable myself:

come out of a plastic wrapper! the top layer of clothes comes off/on once im just about to get on board (old trackys over jods, boots are last thing to go on, dont walk around in them) and an old jacket before swapping for my tweed.

pony bathed- washing up liquid for first few shows to lift grease (great for white feathers aswell, just dont use a lot and rinse very well) squirt of ALVA sparkle/dazzle (amazing stuff, highly recommend) then clean summer sheet and legs bandaged up after applying chalk to socks and stuff (if they are wet it makes a paste, brush out on show day once dry) tails plaited up to keep clean.

erm thats it really, good oily diet to make them shiny, plenty of brushing on show day (with clean brushes, amazes me people go to all this effort then use gammy horrid brushes on said nag!) and leave them covered up!

ETA- clean tack with normal glycerine soap and a smidge of leather dressing/oil. more often you do it, shinier it gets/stays. poke the holes out with a cocktail stick so you dont get a build up of soap etc. easier to keep a bridle and bit just for shows cos they tend to get muckiest, saddle your sat on so doesnt matter so much.
boots, hot cloth to lift any grease off them, then polished and buffed to within an inch of their lives.
