Just pondering what I am going to be expecting to pay, I know the callout is 50 but have no idea what the sedation is going to cost me.
So just asking in general. I know its not going to be the exact same as everyones but would like an idea so I dont die of shock when I get the bill.

Depends on how long your horse needs to be under for - we used Sedivet not so long ago for a scan - was under for about 1/2 hr tops.

Is horsey being sedated for vet to do work? If so you'll be looking at the jab (£15 or so) plus vets examination time.

you can also use acp, but that didnt touch mine

we only use it for clipping though and dont need much - i think it depends on what you need it for because i dont think most vets will give it out without call out

He will need to be under for enough time for farrier to do his back feet, He has been funny with them since he had an abcess, All gone now but wont let anyone except me mess with his feet.
All the vet needs to do is jab him then the farrier said he will get straight on with back feet, and do front last as hes fine with them.
Thanks for your reply

A lot of messing about to get your horse shod, but gotta do what you gotta do.

Two of my horses need sedating to have their teeth rasped. The vet used Torbugesic and Domosedan which was approximately £50 per horse plus £6.80 per horse for doing the injecting.

sedalin is 16.66 + vat = 19.16 - 1 tube

sedivet is 13.67 + vat = 15.72 - enough to sedate a 17.3hh
visit was 37.03 + vat = 42.59
injection was 6.14 + vat =7.06
total to sew 2" gash in forehead 65.37

excluding antibiotics, bute, local anaesthetic, sutures and a 2nd visit cos he went all wobbly as he was concussed - total bill £350.56 (!!)

gues who just got her itemised vet's bill!!

With Sedivet / Sedalin etc it only works if given to a horse in a relaxed state ie no raised heart beat. An easy mistake is to find the horse doesn't like something, then go and get the sedivet, by which time the heartbeat is raised and the sedivet won't work. Also it can take at least 20 mins to work and lingers in the system for a good 6 hours (as you will discover if you try riding your horse after using sedivet to clip it).

That makes my vet very reasonable, Murphy (15.1hh) was sedated a couple of months, the bill was 11.46 Domosedan and 6.87 Torbugesic, total £18.33 .
