So.... how much work does a horse 'need' to do???

To be honest the best gloves I have ever had have been 99p from Lidl ones made of fleece!!!

Nothing else keeps my fingers warm.... dont worry bout my toes so much as they dont have to 'do' anything really. But the buckles and clips on rugs etc are a bit of a challenge with dead mans fingers!!!

Have you found anything to help at all??

Min has fruitloop moments like that too. When his new companion, Charlie arrived, he didn't know what to make of Min bouncing around him trying to get him to play.

Bought the rambo as he will be out all winter (hopefully the field will be ok) and needed to know he was as warm and protected as possible..... he might melt you know

I've tried the battery powered heated gloves but they are bulky and the heated bit is in the palm so doesn't really help! I haven't tried the Sealskinz yet. Like you I quite like fleece gloves - especially insulate ones. It's a pain (literally) isn't it?
 
Ah, don't worry about it, we have two businesses, one of which means I'm in a shop 5.5 days a week. I make sure we go for a hack at the weekend, but at this time of year, it's very often just a round the block job (we are lucky that includes bridleways so a little canter!)

Apparently satin ski gloves are the best thing since sliced bread for bad circulation. I wear a thin pair of gloves with thick fingerless / mitten style gloves over the top. I also keep rubber gloves near the stable so i don't have to take my gloves off if I'm doing anything with water.
 
Not heard that one before, but suppose that if its good enough for RAF pilots in WW2 then it would work for us!!! (think theres were silk though)

But, and its a big one, I am totally phobic about silk, satin and brushed nylon!!! weird person I am, but its like nails on a blackboard to me.

Even writing this now the hairs on my arms are upright!!

A large percentage of the horse owing population has exactly the same problem! I've had horses for all of my working life (over 30 years!) and every winter is the same. At some point I always ask myself a similar question, or get depressed because it's all work and mud and no riding. However, none of my horses has ever suffered from too little work in the winter. Providing they are warm, turned out for a while each day and well fed they want for nothing more. Just bear in mind the reduced fitness when you get round to doing anything with them. I've tried giving them a complete holiday for a couple of months in December/January when the light and weather is at its worst, but found that it was hard to get them back to fitness ready for starting competing again in the spring, so now they just tick over.
