My poor little pony...what a bad start he's had.
Turns out he was a rescue case...skinny, full of lice and with feet like overgrown pork-scratchings. The first recorded owner rescued him because she felt sorry for him, but found he was wild- unhandled and unmanageable- she couldn't cope so passed him on to her friend- 2nd owner- who seemingly did a brill job over a year getting him sorted physically, getting weight on him and teaching him to lead, pick feet up and be handled etc. When she got him to this stage she found what she thought was a kind knowledable home for him to be brought on......turned out this person was a dealer who backed and broke him and sold him on within a short space of time.....he was aged about 2 and a half to 3 at this point. He then turned up again fairly local to me with a nice lady who bought him for her daughter but had to sell after a few months for purely financial reasons.
So....after a bad start, and a period of changing hands in short spaces of time he's ended up with me...I have owned him the longest (16months). He's now 5.....a cheeky happy chap with the occasional strop but remarkably unscathed. Both ladies I have spoken to are really pleased he's found a forever home- both could see his potential but were unable to offer him a permanent home for various reasons.
Funny thing is...before he ended up with the dealer, as a youngster he was at a couple of shows me and my daughter were at.....so near and yet so far.
Heres to you Toby
