So I have some news to share with you all
.. I have kept this very quiet as the horsey world doesnt half talk! But
as of today Delicia is now a resident at Bedgebury Park Equestrian Centre. What does this mean? I hear you ask. Do not fret, I havent sold her
. I have judge moved livery yards. During November, with increasing work pressures and losing the ability to ride in the evenings it became apparent to me that if I wished to continue Delicias training and compete competively I needed to be able to ride after work. Unfortunately I work till 7pm at night
so this posed a problem.
I contemplated selling her, it would save me a lot of money, but i couldnt sell my beautiful mare. I promised her a home for life and i meant this. But I was finding it increasingly hard to work 40 hours a week, do an NVQ3 course and ride, train and compete Delicia, there are only so many hours in the day. So on December 1st I handed my notice in at Stilebridge, it was received well (always a worrying time in my eyes!) and we started looking for a new yard.
I knew where I wanted to go, having been at this yard a number of times recently I had been able to have a taste of the facilities and see how well Delicia goes there. So I booked to view Bedgebury, have a proper look at what is on offer to me.
Well, what can I say, the facilities are amazing;
- 125 acres of glorious parkland which encompasses a cross country course, four state of the art sand schools (two of which are indoors), dressage mirrors, a full set of show jumps.
- 2000 acres of offroad hacking in the beautiful Bedgebury Forest.
- Covered horse walker with rubber bricks as a footing.
- Loads of turnout.
- Friendly and knowledgeable staff on site.
- Affiliated and unaffiliated dressage and show jumping competitions so far all I compete is dressage but who knows for the future?
- Clinics with top trainers, BD regional development clinics and inter-regional competitions.
I was very happy at Stilebridge, it is a very good yard and show centre, but it just wasnt for us anymore. So today came, the big move!
As usual, Delicia travelled beautifully, walking onto the yard like she owned the place. Dee thrives on routine so whilst I set about putting all her equipment away, she was put in her lovely rubber matted stable, her hay bar filled with sweet hay and a bucket of water in case she couldnt work out the automatic waterier. I tacked her up and took her into one of the indoor arenas, there were two other liveries there and they were very pleasant. Ben Cooke was there training one of Gabriellas horses and he watched me ride. He was very complimentary of my riding and delicia, I was over the moon!
Delicia was very good, albeit she passaged back to the stable and snorted a fair few times, you would have thought she had been there more than a few hours. The staff were very knowledgable and friendly and the resident yard manager was a delight!
I am so happy with how well Delicia has settled, but I have given her some Coligone to help her a little, as she is quite highly strung and sensitive, with a history of ulcers, I thought this would be a good idea. (Before you all think I am stealth marketing, I work for Boots the Chemist ).
So picture time!
Excuse the demon pony eyes, my flash was on my camera!
