went to see a lovely mare today. fantastic movement. lovely natured. very sweet,

however she had lots of bald patches on her. i think its just the way shes maulting. but i was wondering if anyones had similer. im thinking of offering the full amount but i want to be sure its not something serious. i did ask if she had sweet itch or similer but owners assured me it was the way she was maulting. is it normal for the to mault like that?

i did put in an offer. £50 under what they had her up for, which they declined. if i can be sure its nothing serious, id offer the full amount as shes only advertised for pennies.
 
I would offer the £50 extra if you like her.
It is really neither her nor there in terms of keeping her. I thought she was cheap tbh.
 
i thought she might be over rugged. she was wearing a middle weight with the neck. i thought they might be because of the rug. they were on her chest, bum and along her sides.
 
Just be carefull my friend new horse had a couple of bald patches due to allergys now every summer she nearly bald and cant go out because of the sun and a real struggle to keep her well as she has food allergys grass sun and wormers will affect her get your vet to do tests on this before you part with your money
 
I wouldnt quibble over £50, its hardly here or there whe it comes to buying horses!
I f I were you i would offer the full amount, put down a sensible deposit in relation to price and get a written reciept which states 'subject to vetting' and tell them explicitly that you are concerned about the bald patches so if its something serious you only lose the vetting £££s

i have just brought her.. well im going to put down a deposit in the next few days and have spoken about the patches and i will get vet to take some samples. organising a day i can pop in with the deposit money at the moment. HOW EXITING :D
 
I think you need a vet to have a look at this. Cakey gets tiny bald patches, we've checked everything and concluded it's an allergy which is especially bad if he sweats under his rug (even a tiny bit of moisture causes them). However if he is fully clipped he doesn't get any so it's not an issue. The problem is that bald patches could really be anything and you'd never know without a vet.

My horse has got a couple of bald patches on the top of his legs where they are moulting out the long hair. I've put some cream on the bald bits but it's def moulting not anything else. My horse has fine hair and is prone to getting a bit scabby round moulting time bless him.
I wouldn't worry too much about it :)

remember youv not 'bought' her until money and horse has been exchanged. Good news though, I do hope the patches are nothing sinister;)
 
thank you. when i go and put the deposit down, ill take some photos and put them on. i am deffinatly going to get a vet to check her out before i actually do 'buy' her.
 
Congratulations on buying her.

I had a chestnut mare who used to get large bald patches when moulting. When she first did it I thought it was an allergy but she did it again the next year. Good luck with her. xx
