Yes, straw is bales..half a bale, quarter of a bale etc.

Except my 2 are so rarely in that I have to remember where I've put it...

Loobie, I call them both bales but if I used even half of a bale of straw in my ponies stable he would be swimming in it, because our bales are HUGE!

Oooooh I'd forgotten about flakes - very old Lancashire term.

I use piece or section for hay but our straw comes in little bales, atm, so usually half a bale.

If we get a mini heston, then I use 'piece' for straw.

Slices of hay. Don't use straw anymore, but when I did it was always bales: 1/2, 1/4 etc. Now it's bales of shavings!

Never heard of flaps/flakes, and certainly not 'biscuits' of hay
