Maybe I've had too much wine and misunderstood,
but to quote the H and H racing editor "but, before you listen to the tabloid hysteria and yell "Ban the National!", remember how many worse fates befall horses than to run in it.
Surely the point is we want to keep our horses alive and well, not just to find them the least miserable way to die.
FYI, I'm not in the Ban the National camp, I almost (!) totally support it. My views are not the point of this post! I do find myself struggling to explain it to others however and I don't think this comment will be at all useful in my arguments!
