Afternoon All,
On Tuesday I got home from work early than usual, (I had been on nights been home and then had a meeting to go to in the morning) When I arrived home at 1pm I found a lady at my field gate with one of my horses in the feild and the other (small shetland) running free!!
I was unsure what had happened and I am still unsure of how it happened but apparrently both horses were out of the field and were running up and down the 60mph road and in and out of farmers fields. This kind lady stopped herded them onto a neighbouring but open grass field and then rang for help as she couldn't stay. The next lady who turned up who I met had used a dog lead to lead my horse back to the field with the little one to follow, which he did to a point (he didn't want to go back into the field)
Now the interesting part, the field gate was locked, it was still locked when I got back but the bolt wasn't in the gate hole. I can't see any way in which it has opened. When I checked on them before I went to the meeting the gate was most definately locked. There is no damage to the fencing or gate or any additional holes. All I can think is one has barged into the gate and 'popped' it open. The gate is wooden and hasn't broken.
It is now re-locked and has multiple old ropes round either side as a 'just in case' until I can think of what else I can do, don't particularly want a chain slung round!
It could have been soo much worse, but I am grateful to the two ladies who stopped to help!
