So nervous, new to the world of livery!

Having been on this forum a while I have always read peoples posts about livery yards and thought "thank god my horses are kept at home." But at the age of 22 it's finally time to leave home! I have got a new job about an hour and a half away and in three weeks time will be moving house. For those that know me I have three 2 horses and my parents have one. The dun in my sig is pretty much retired now at the age of 17 due to slight lameness so she will be staying on my parents farm with my parents cob. Bean however will be coming with me.

The thought of livery really scares me! Not sure why. Guess I'm used to always having my own yard and rules. I have found a yard for her that appears to be ok and I have managed to actually get accomodation for myself on site! Just happens there was a challet to rent so I'm having that.

I'm going next week to fot rubber matting in my stable ect. Spent a small fortune so far buying feed bins, mucking out tools ect as all my stuff has to stay at home for the horses I'm leaving with my parents.

Gahhhh, starting to panic! Tell me it will all be ok lol!

Any essential advice I should know?!

it will be fine, i went back into livery in january after being by myself for 3 years and i love it.

Keep all of your stuff under lock and key, and take everything that everyone says about anyone else with a pinch of salt and you will be fine!!

I used to run a small livery yard, so my horse, obviously, got the best care! However, after 4 years the YO decided to close it and travel the world.
I had to find a new yard for the man. I did a lot of searching, as nowhere was good enough or lived up to my level of care (ha ha)!

Eventually I found The One. Jay is happy there, I am happy there, and he is very well cared for.

I guess what I am trying to say, is that horses can be happy in livery yards, and I am sure, if you've done your homework, your horses will get on just fine (especially as you are next door)

Use your common sense/judgement and all will go well.

I hope you and your horseys are happy in your new home. i am on a small livery yard, everybody is lovely, we all look out for each others horses and help each other out. Nothing needs to be kept under lock and key or have our names on it as we would never dream of stealing from each other. We will borrow from each other on occasion but only after asking or being offered.
There are 5 of us and we get on great. If there is an issue we always solve it amicably.
Maybe it helps that we are all grown ups with no hormonal teenagers and no prima donas on the scene.
Couldn't ask for better people. we even have the odd social outing together.
One tip would be to take up milk and some biccies on your first day.
