.....Well, he is on a 2 week trial, so long as all is okay he will have!
Thought I would do an update for everyone that took the time to reply to my previous threads re him when he was ill.
He was diagnosed with mild arthritis in both coffin joints and also in a fetlock joint last month. He was treated with steroid injections and vets hoped he would come sound and come back into work.
The lameness/arthritis wasn't really the issue though. The issue was his extreme girthiness that got worse and worse until at the end he would bronc on the spot repeatedly and rear when girth was done up. His way of going deteriorated and he became increasingly spooky when ridden too.
Vet's couldn't find anything to explain it so said it was behaivoural and to re-introduce the tacking up/girthing process slowly- almost like re-backing him.
SO, over the past 6 weeks that is what I have done and I am pleased to annouce he is now back to his 'normal' self
Vets said that although he is fine to be schooled etc, really he shouldn't be drilled in the school a lot anymore and would be nice if he had a quieter life so I set about trying to find him a home where he could have just that as I don't want to give up dressage/competing and cannot afford two!
I *think* (hope) I have found an absolutely perfect home for him with miles and miles and miles of off road riding (perfect for him as he is not good with large vehicles on narrow country roads) around forest with peaty/sandy tracks. It is just beautiful. Dropped him off last night and immediately tacked him up and took him for a hack with 3 other horses (at their request, think it was a test but a test I knew he'd pass as my boy is an angel) and he LOVED it, it is the nicest hacking I have ever come accross and perfect for him.
I cried buckets saying goodbye and all the way home and all last night. I miss him so much already but I want to do what is best for him, he owes me nothing and deserves a wonderful life having some fun now.
Here are some pictures of the kindest, most loving and quite simply gorgeous horse I have ever known. Sorry for pic overload!
