I took Grace in next door's school and she went like an absolute dream. Our school is quite insular and is being resurfaced in a few weeks, whereas the one I went in tonight is very open. There were people, cars and horses all wandering around, and after the initial spooks and screams, she seemed to settle.

A fellow livery was walking her horse passed up the lane, and all of a sudden it came galloping back on its own. Grace was amazing, she just stood watching it in awe. After it had passed, been caught and walked back, Grace exploded but then worked fantastically after that.

I think it is time that Grace started to go out and see a bit more of the world. I am going to try to get involved with as many clinics as possible so she can adjust without the pressure of competing.

I have just got a place on a Clive Halsall clinic, and am planning on hiring out a few schools to get her used to going to a new environment.

Is there anything you could recommend to get her used to going into new schools and encourage her to settle?

Glad to hear you've got Clive sorted... he's pretty easy on the eye as well as being a great trainer

You're always welcome to bring Grace up to ours... you could try her in the school then come out for a hack with me if you wanted

Isn't he just!!!!!!!

I think you've got the right idea. Can you hire a school and take some horses that she knows? Might help her chill! As she gets better, you can reduce the number of horses.

i think what you are doing is great, try some unaffliated comps aswell, less pressure then. And try and go to ones like i am where you can ride one test in an indoor and one in and outdoor. that way she'l get used to the different environments.

Also if shes spooky and tense ride her long and deep for a couple of laps until she starts relaxing then bring her back up again.

Thanks everyone... She is a just a horse that has never been anywhere or seen anything! I am hoping to get to a few unaffs in the next few months but it is quite difficult as our school is due to be resurfaced very soon and I don't want to pay for a class then not have anywhere to practise before hand. Hopefully, now I am a member of the NDG (well, fingers crossed they accept me

) I can get her out to clinics and small competitions through them too before we affiliate.
