In June my sister made the heartwrenching decision to let her loan pony go to a new home, something we never thought his owner would agree to (she deemed him "too dangerous" which he wasn't!) so it was too good an opportunity for him to miss as the new home offered him a home for the rest of his working life.

Now in the 4 years my sister had this pony she went from a complete novice to a very confident, calm and imo good little rider and the pony went, with her patience and hours of slowly progressing one step at a time, from "the pony who needed a bullet!" as he refused to go forwards without broncing for england and wouldn't even contemplate jumping to a sweet little allrounder who is now teaching children to ride and jump at a local riding school - his new home.

She has also ridden some other tricky ponies and can get a really good tune out of them and my instructor had nothing but praise for the fantastic job she made of helping me start Till's this spring as she is so relaxed, confident and calm on her (whereas I can easily turn into a jibbering wreck

). OK, so her riding needs a lot of "tidying up" as she is very much self taught and not always conventional or text book in her approach but then I wonder if this is one of the reasons she does so well on tricky rides as she rides according to what she feels rather than what the books may say.

Anyways, back to the point! A friend has been trying to sell her pony since the summer as it has slowly been knocking her daughters confidence and the daughter now won't jump it. The pony in question also had an unfortunate incident about a year ago and now charges into its fences with little breaks and either leaps them or stops sharp but is not dangerous - he just has lots of confidence issues that weren't helped by his owners daughter losoing her nerve. So friend has asked Kiri to take it for some jumping lessons, huntertrial and SJ it a bit and show it off when there is a viewing - Kiri doesn't have to pay a penny so not only gets the ride but the benefit of the lessons. And as is usually the case with Kiri she is really looking forward to the challenge, Lol!

So I am very proud of her - her reputation is as such locally that not only is she a cracking little rider but also is very good with tricky ponies and those needing a confident but calm and understanding rider. And I am thrilled that after her old loan ponies owner had done so much to knock her riding and refuse to beleive that she was in any way competant that she has now been given this fantastic opportunity and have the recognition she so deserves after all the hard work she put into her last pony
