Took my share horse to a sponsored ride this morning, which is conveniently within hacking distance of the yard!
He's an ex racer, 6 years old and only done 1 sponsored ride before and been 'out' 10 times max.
I'd never done a sponsored ride before and had no idea what to expect but luckily we took the horses out to meet the hunt a few weeks ago so got some idea of how they would react.
I was so proud of him, he's not done much jumping (apart from on the track but he wasn't very good) but he jumped everything I pointed him at without even looking at them, including several brush jumps which he cleared the top of not understanding the concept of 'brush'!
He wasn't strong at all, he did jog instead of walking but he does this even when he hacks out with one other horse and I'm used to it now (unfortunately!). He was very polite with all the others horses and even let some canter past him without throwing a complete fit. (We said they could go past as we know our boys are pretty good.)
I'm also pretty proud of myself, having never had much confidence jumping or with a horse pulling, but despite Larry's inexperience he gives a really good feeling going into and over a jump. Even when he leaps as high as he can! I did quite a lot of jumps, mostly the smaller ones though, but I want to make Larry's and my confidence solid before jumping anything bigger.
Sorry this has got rather long! I will hopefully have a photo of us by tomorrow but I'll probably have a ridiculous face as it was about the second or third jump on the course, a bar that was lower on one side than the other with half tractor tyres in front so Larry pinged it! I'm so proud of him not even questioning it when I pointed him at it!
I can offer you a variety of things as I was starving when I got home and had to come via Tesco! There are jam doughnuts, texas bbq pringles, pick'n'mix, sweet chilli coated peanuts, golden syrup pancakes or pretzels! (No, this isn't my usual diet!)
