As title really, so proud of him. He's been a bit stop starty of late, walking like a slug, then stopping and snorting at something and jogging off... So I've just been doing the same route over and over and he seems to be getting much more fluid. Anyway, today I decided to let him have a canter, it was lovely he's got such lovely natural strides and canters like a dream for such a green horse. So we had a short canter and straight away he started working even better in walk and trot and focused well. We carried on along the bridleway and I came across my friend, her dogs came out yapping and scurrying around and he didn't bat an eyelid. They had two huge Charolais bulls being primped and preened for Devon county, again he didn't bat an eye... He was a bit impatient, stepping around on the spot but he soon relaxed and stood still, the tractors were driving around and at one point my friends oh was being swung around by a Charolais heifer on the end of the rope... Skidding around the pen... Still my little dude stood still. We were there for about half an hour chatting... A really good exercise for him and he behaved impeccably.

We then get back to the yard and I give him a brush off before he has his rug and dinner and turnout... And I decide to start on his tail... Nothing drastic, I just pull a few hairs at a time with one hand whilst brushing his quarters with the other... Just to see how he takes it! The dude didn't even put his ears back or flinch... Now he strops over his mane but was so cool over his tail! You can't even tell I've started on the tail, but knowing I can do a bit each day safely without him stropping... That is such a weight off my mind.

After a fab afternoon and an impeccably behaved Benjamin I'm so happy.

To others it's not much I know, but I have the stupidest grin on my face!

How lovely QB:)

It sounds like your going to have a very good summer.

Oh I hope so elsbells... It's a year ago next week that I had my last hack (didn't know it would be my last hack at the time) on Ebony. Things have changed so much since then, I can't believe how much.

I have to say, I'm really glad I decided to alter my plans and back Ben last year... His character has grown so much in twelve months he'd certainly have been a whole different kettle of fish to back now!

It's the little things isn't it that puts the big grin on your face and makes your heart swell :D

Sounds like the beginning of a good season QB :D

It certainly is...:D. Although the thing that always puts the biggest grin on my face without fail is that he will come to call for fusses, even if I've only turned him out five minutes earlier. As you say it's the little things, but its seeing progress and changes on a daily basis... It's like watching a flower grow... Being able to see the growth with the naked eye... It's fascinating! Getting ready for the shows is scary as hell, but it will so be worth it.

lovely to read, well done you for all your work and effort it appears to be paying off !

Thank you :D

So proud of my boy continued...

Today I got to the yard feeling pretty glum, I'd just driven through town and past the fairground setting up... And it was like being punched in the stomach, I'd been fine, lovely sunshine glorious day.... But seeing that bought home that on our last ride, we rode past this fair... Rides wizzing around a whole year ago. So yeah, got to the yard, missing ebony, feeling low and with tears streaming down my face.

I tacked the dude up and went out for our hack... I did the same hack as yesterday only backwards and came across my friends yard at the beginning of the hack. My friends oh was playing with the bulls... He went into the pen and left the gate open... I pooed myself, I kept saying oh my god he's left the gate open... I must have gone ashen as they stood there laughing at me:o. Anyway, Ben and I have inspired my friend so much that she put shoes on her ned on Thursday and today she rode for the first time in nearly four years! As luck would have it, she was just tacking up when I got there so we went out together, a lovely amble around the bridleways and roads of Cornwall, gorgeous sunshine, happy horses, a good girly gossip, setting the worlds to rights and also feeling able to chat about ebs as she is a veteranairy nurse at the practice I use... I can back feeling refreshed and happy, Ben behaved so well as did her horse....

Its amazing the restorative and therapeutic power horses have.

Pictures!! :( :D

Sorry! I never normally take my phone out and Michelle left hers as she couldn't fit it in her pocket:o. However I was just thinking that I will definitely take the camera out next time... We are going to ride out together one or two times a week which will be nice for Ben... The majority he as done is solo, and I trust him to not get to dependent now to be able to work in regular hacks in company.

Pictures are promised from the next hack...

Oh and I pulled a bit more tail tonight too... Not that you could tell yet!

great to read positive posts they are often so negative on here

I know! I'm honestly bowled over by Ben every time I get on him... Such a good head on his shoulders! Sure, the grass is making him a bit fizzed and more aware... But still, he listens to me, if I encourage him on... He goes, if I ask him to calm, he calms, if I tell him the black and white cows won't eat him, he doesn't completely believe me but he tries so hard to put his faith in me (with reservations and springs in his hooves)

I'm so lucky! And do you know what I've just realised... I've been such an idiot... I don't care at all if we come last and get laughed out of the ring at royal Cornwall... I will still know I own the best horse there. :)
