I took the Greyhound Gang to Shropshire today for the annual Greyhound Trust Shropshire and Borders dog show. Its a bit of a trek at 2 hours each way, but they are a lovely group of people and I know the re-homing co-ordinator has a soft spot for Marty as he was with her in kennels for quite a few months so I like her to be able to catch up with him occasionally 😊
Learning point number one: never take all four dogs again, it was even more mad than I’d anticipated 😂 The wonderful MurphysMinder had very kindly said she would come to help me and she was fantastic, I wouldn’t have managed at all without her dog holding abilities! Millie lurcher was a crabby little madam who growled at every other dog â˜¹ï¸ and I found that Ace likes small dogs a lot!
Amy lurcher went into veteran and sadly wasn’t placed 😢😢😢 Millie lurcher went into best lurcher and came 3rd out of 4, the judge liked hairy lurchers not smooth ones!
I couldn’t really think what class to put Ace in, he has come on loads since I’ve had him but he still needs to put more weight on and get more shine to his coat for me. So I put him in ‘best greyhound’ which understandably was quite a large class..... and he won it!!!! I was so pleased 😊😊😊
Then I took Marty into the ‘black beauties’ class and he won that 😊😊😊 it sounds dreadfully arrogant but he was (to my biased eyes!) head and shoulders above the rest, the sun came out just as the class started and he was fantastically shiny, he is really well muscled and looks amazing. I must emphasise that I have VERY little to do with this, I just feed him! He has done it all himself and I am very lucky indeed 😄
So we waited and waited to the end of the day for ‘best in show’ where all the class winners lined up.... I had one in each hand 😂 And I’ll admit I was so proud I nearly burst into tears in the ring..... Ace was chosen as Best in Show 😊😊😊😊😊 My gorgeous, huge mini-pony of a greyhound who is just learning to play and have fun, he won a lovely rosette and a cup! I am truly so delighted for him 😊😊😊😊
I came home thinking that maybe this dog showing thing isn’t so bad after all 😛 They are all very tired now!
