weve only been having lessons for 5 weeks mainly to dela wiht this terrible sppoking and napping
today i took my husband to yard to show him tht our money is actually not being wasted lol - to show him how much we have both come on
went excellently - then, just behind the school bushes - a gunshot went off and birds flew.
My horse just stopped, pricked his eards and did nothing. My biggewst fault was i used ot dismount at teh first sign of spooking - i didnt - made sure my seart was right, heels forward and stroked his neck
I stayed on for 2 minutes tehn thought logially(instead of in a panic) we should end it on such a good note - so while he remained still and calm i calmly dismounted
this will be a silly post to many of you but for me as a novice with a previous very spooky horse ( he used to turn and bolt if a leaf rustled in the wind whilst i made it worse by jumping off straight away) its a huge huge achievement
im so proud of both of us - cant wait to tell my instructor tomorrow - that lady has been a godsend to usxxxx
 
Well done! Yes, you must be proud by all you have achieved, it is hard to get back on when a horse spooks, plays up etc, but you just have to. I have felt physically sick getting back on after being scared, and it is the best thing to do in the long run, although at the time you think 'what the hell am I doing?' :)

thank you laura - yep when i first started i really really dreaded them - he spooked all the time, head shook - was generally horrid. Im only learning, have never sat in a canter (my daughter had all the lessons) so when he used to turn and run it scared me to death
but my instructor taught me how to manage him, and the more he did this and i didnt fall off the more my confidence grew. Now i genuineley believe my joddys have superglue on them and i know my horse is gaining respect and trust in me
Not long ago people advised me to sell him, said he was too much for me - my instructor said we would get there and we are. Another friend at yard said if i was prepared to put the blood, sweat and tears in we could do it.
We have and im just so chuffed i didnt give in :)

thank you jen but its all down to my instructor - what a small world it is. A girl at my yard reccomeneded her instructor - turns out this instructor broke my horse in when hge was a baby so does know him inside out.
When i bought him i was told he would not lunge - impossible, he could only be side reined - my instructor said rubbish - she had lunged him!!!
one lesson was spent on lunging and though he resisted, and boy did he resist (hed been taught how to) she really got him going
I know i have a star there - hes georgeous - hes just got away with so much xxx
 
You seem to be giving each other confidence and growing together, that bond will prove to get stronger as you go on. Horses can be a challenge and I think that we learn more when we are challenged. You seem to have a good instructor who will instill confidence in both of you. Nothing worth fighting for comes easily. Good luck.
 
thanks pastie - this is why im so proud - hes a cob and my instructor has said everyone buys a cob as a first horse thinking they will be easy - so not true - but thanks to her we are gettign there and imn so happy.
I titally fell in love with him - when my daughter rode i was the unpaid groom and i loved it - when she got scared i knew i had to sort him out for her and him because i could never sell him
My daughter rode him bareback last week, first time shed been in weeks - i dont believe in forcing kids - and she was amazed at how responsive he was just loose in his field - she was like "mum look hes turning with my legs!"

thats what i wanted and tomorrow she now wants a lesson on him - my instructor knows how much my daughter has been put off - ive already asked if she decides to turn up at a lesson can she accomodate her - she can -
This horse is with us for life - i adore him xxxx
