Friends hacked out on Friday and when cantering back down a track they had already been up, her horse (she part owned him), fell and broke his pastern. Open fracture so no choice but to PTS where he stood.

I feel so gutted for her and the other owner, horrible freak accident, but what a crap way to end the year.

Thankfully she is O.K. has just broken a bone in her hand and obviously very shocked.

I'm so sorry, what a awful accident. I know how she feels as my horse broke his leg this year and it was very shocking and upsetting. My thoughts are with her.

Poor thing, she will be gutted but I hope she realises there was nothing she could have done to prevent it so she mustn't beat herself up about it. The only consolation will be that he probably didn't feel anything and there was no 'can we, can't we mend him' which is a blessing in disguise TBH. Huge hugs to them all.

No apparently he got up and carried on, on three legs. She quickly caught him and he stood calmly eating treats till the vet arrived (which was thankfully quite quickly). I guess he had so much adrenaline from the shock that he didn't feel a thing. I think it was more distressing for her and the person riding with her at the time.

Both her and the co owner are devastated, the whole thing has upset everyone who knew him and we will all miss the grumpy bugger (even though we had nothing much to do with him).

I hope she doesn’t blame herself, it was just a horrible freak accident, but think it will take a while for them to come to term with it.

At the moment it just feels like the bottom has fallen out of their world and so completely unfair.

I will pass on everyone’s condolences when I see them.

How awful. Seems at least the horse didn't suffer, which would be a blessing. My sympathies to all.
