well shes still in season, shes not really squirting but shes squating like she wants to and holding her tail,winking, all the usual! she smashed her way out her paddock on wednesday as she had a different gelding next to her! she has kicked a hole in the stable next her turnout paddock. she is constantly antogonising the boys then squeals and kicks like a pig when they so much as look at her! she is coming back into work once the swelling on her leg has gone down and id rather not be riding her whilst shes like this! think i will speak to my vet monday but am i right in thinking this is not normal? (first time mare owner)

My mare was in season for nearly a fortnight in the summer, despite the fact that she has a marble. Unfortunately we had to put her back on regumate as she was becoming impossible to ride, and was also difficult in the field.

I know it's late in the year but I suspect the unpredictable weather has played havoc with your mare's hormones.

Moody mare supplements can help, or if not, regumate - it's the only way we've been able to compete our mare for the last two years.

A lot of mares are transitional at this time of year - seasons can last longer - and she may have a persistent follicle. The only way to be sure would be to get her scanned - but chances are she'll go out in the next few days and possibly not come in again until spring.

She's probably lost the marble then - it's quite common for some mares not to keep them in. Again, the only way to be sure would be to scan her.

this is my issue is that when it comes to competing her it will be like riding a time bomb, she is a nightmare, she is extrmeley dominant over other mares (or trys to be!) she escaped again last night but rather than going to the geldings and flirting she goes and antagonises the old head mare down the bottom over the stable door!

Ask your vet for Regumate, helped my mare, also is she well rugged up, as sometimes them being well fed and rugged up to the nines, sometimes sends their body clocks out of kilter.

Would definitely give the regumate a go. My mare has been on it daily throughout summer and was the only way she could be ridden, otherwise just planted her feet and refused to move. Had her scanned but nothing showed up. Regumate has completely solved her issues although it is a bit pricey.
