So shocked Sarcoids

I have my horse on livery so she is rugged and done at night when i get there she is retired,i have moved yards in the last week and i was giving her a brush and i noticed a huge sarcoid in between her legs i could not believe what i was seeing you would really have to look there to see it she has had the vet out to her several times the last month and they didn't notice it i;m saying they should but just saying you would have to be looking there to see it.

I am so worried i have never seen any sign of a sarcoid on her although again would i have seen it ? it was not there in sept as she was scanned!
So now my question is will it be covered on insurance ? and what can they do for her ?
I feel awful its a horrible thing.
 
Are you sure it's a sarcoid? Sarcoids tend to start off small and grow gradually. I would call the vet out and find out what it is first. If it is a sarcoid they come in many many different types, from ones that drop off by themselves, to others that cause no problems if you leave them alone, to others that spread and cause problems. If you do need to do something your vet will advise you on the treatment which can range from banding (very simple) to Liverpool cream (a bit more complicated). I don't see why your insurance would not cover this unless specifically excluded previously, give them a call when you know what it is and what needs doing.
 
I went to a talk given by Derek Knottenbelt of Liverpool University last week - he seems to be one of the top experts on sarcoid research and treatment. I'd suggest you get your vet out to assess exactly what it is in case it's not a sarcoid as you don't want to head down the wrong path. It should be covered on your insurance, i know it was covered on my horses insurance as he has one removed when he was 4. Once you have claimed for it once they will exclude it normally for life.

Maybe get the vet to have a look and see what options are suitable for treating it- my horse has had 2 little sarcoids that were surgically removed each time.

I have had to deal with sarcoids and had a year of it last year treating and sorting, but thankfully now my warmblood is sarcoid free. He had a tiny one in his groin area which the vet advised to leave - 4 weeks later is was the size of a golfball so they can grow rapidly. My vet then photographed it and sent to Liverpool for diagnosis, but I had a lengthy wait up to 2/3 months and then it had grown to a size of a tennis ball! Also many small ones followed so keep an eye because they can spread quickly.There are many ways of treating from Liverpool Cream to banding etc. I got so fed up with waiting to hear from Liverpool and not everyone agrees with this treatment but I gave him homeopathic tablets and had amazing results. The large one fell away, with the vets help we have banded the rest and fingers crossed all are gone. I check my horse on a weekly basis for sarcoids now as I am not insured for these anymore. Good luck and my advice is to research and be open minded with treatment.
 
Thakyou for your replys my vet is going to come and have a look,i just can't believe how big it has got in a short space of time !
