So, this poor wee toot

Poor thing. It looked deformed, so sad but at least it has been laid to rest

Don’t really get why ears are cropped? Mind you don’t get anything about breeding dogs for status and fights

Poor little girl. 😢

A lady at the yard has a Spanish rescue with cropped ears, little stumps left, looks like a lab x with god knows what, very sweet but very shy. I have no idea why you would crop a dog’s ears.

Probably by a male called 'Rage' and out of a female called 'Terror', had its ears cropped behind a garage and cost a gazillion quid off Pets4Homes but got dumped when new owner realised that it couldn't actually walk.
Meet the latest victim of people who put dogs on a par with designer gear and flash cars. Just a 'thing' to 'have'.
**triple axle eye roll**

poor little mite. makes my blood boil the way people are making so much money from crossbreeding animals who end up deformed,,, saw some french bulldog cross pug puppies advertised last week, bet they wont be able to breathe either :(

I'm amazed at the amount of dogs on Instagram (mainly in America) with cropped ears that then get bandaged for months so the grow upright, it's gross 😥 No one needs a doberman with pointy ears, they're beautiful enough as they are!

I have a docked spaniel and it was a conscious choice to get one that was docked so I probably can't really comment but I can't get along with ear cropping as I can't see a reason for it other than aesthetic. The dreadful conformation that has clearly been bred for is truly awful though. Poor creature.

there was actually a vet tech in the FB comments saying ear cropping is the smart thing to do, because if you have more than one and leave them alone, they will chew each others ears o_O. I've had discussions with others on FB when they are convinced that ear cropping done young enough and under anaesthetic is perfectly OK and that they look much better when done. And then you see puppies for sale on FB that lok like their ears we hacked off with blunt scissors. I admit, I am not pro docking but ear cropping is especially abhorrent to me.

Ear cropping is routinely done in America, as is declawing of cats, and debarking dogs; most see nothing wrong with it. Is tail docking still allowed in the UK?

Tail docking is allowed in a few working breeds, as long as it's done by a vet; ear cropping is banned.

Docking is allowed in certain breeds if the dogs are (demonstrably) bred for working (breeder had to show his gun licence to the vet or something). I went for a docked one partly because that was what was available and partly because I had two friends at the time with undocked spaniels who were back and forth to the vets with tail damage! So I was a bit biased. With a bit of time and distance in place now I'd consider an undocked one but it wouldn't be a decision maker if a nice docked pup was available. But ear cropping makes no sense to me.

yes I know, but they are wrong. still allowed in parts of Europe too.

Sorry, forgot to add that it's a disgusting practice!

Ear cropping is done on fighting dogs as the other dog can't get hold of the ears and cause pain (thus likely getting an advantage in the fight) that way. I believe Dobes had their ears docked for the same reason, but with guarding/protection in mind (i.e. burglar cannot get hold of the ears and hurt the dog to stop them attacking).

Utterly abhorrent. Mind you it's not just the ears which are the issue here - the dog was congenitally malformed to the point where she couldn't continue to live comfortably - that shows things have moved on from ownership of efficient real-world fighting dogs purely to aesthetics. No doubt whatsoever that the dog was bred specifically for that 'incompatible with life' look, and had her ears cropped to further 'enhance' the aesthetics... in the mind of a complete lunatic.

I tell you if I won lotto I'd be doing something about that whole culture.

And her little face, she looks so sweet. Awful.
I actually really like the look of cropped ears. not saying I would ever do it or have one with them (cropped lab anyone?) but in my youth when I was a biker moll in Australia the club house had a gorgeous dobermann called Sturgis who had cropped ears and a kick ass rocket stud collar. All wrong on many levels but he looked great. (And was a lovely dog).
