The local police have my number as a call out in the event of an equine related crisis - which usually equals straying horses on the road. True to usual form, the call came at 4o'clock this morning to 4 ponies straying near Banbury (why do they never break out and go walkies on sunny afternoons?)

I rounded up said ponies (2 mares with yearlings) and found a secure field for them until they are claimed..now very, very tired and creaking a bit - for those that hadn't noticed it was a bit wet last night.

Moan over..another coffee needed

Ahh, but you will go to heaven because you are a good person.

Cassandrarose, because I am a horsewatch co-ordinator, and because I gave them my number for just such events. Out of all the people who live in the Thames Valley area would you believe there are only 2-3 of us who will turn out to this kind of thing voluntarily - which is sad because there must be thousands of horse owners.

So, a recruiting drive everyone..if you are an adult and prepared to help from time to time, would you give your number to the local police to help round up strays and possibly transport them to a yard?

well done to you watcher! I bet you feel so much better to do a good deed and at least someone will be a happier person this morning when they find their horses are safe and sound! A big place for you in heaven!

funnily enough I have volunteered for Caversham/Emmer Green area of horsewatch loads of times, never to get a reply!

Sadly I am moving to woodcote shortly, so if you ever need help out that way!

Well done for sorting this little bunch of escapees! - good karma!!

Mellymoo1 I have pm'ed with contact details of how to join Horsewatch and help. for anybody else that is interested, you don't need transport for horses (insurance is a challenge in any case as it could be construed as business- I use a licenced transport company for all jobs so we are all covered, they recover the cost from the owner, or the sale of unclaimed equines)

Imagine how good your average Policeman is at identifying a horse in the small hours of the morning, or how they struggle with identifying recovered tack, and you can see there is role for volunteers to be a big help in a specialised field
