I can see them

Firstly I am very very far from experienced. I have been looking deeply into foot balance myself, so may be completely wrong. However I say what I think in the hope of learning myself

It looks too me like the toes are too long, heel under slung and the shoe doesn't come back enough under the heel to support the tendons etc

I think that they are dreadful (not necessarily farrier's fault)

Tell us why you want our opinion and I will tell you why I think that they are dreadful.

His heels are all fairly contracted, and they're underrun with some bullnosing on some of the feet. He's been shod with quarter clips in front as well as behind, which is good. The horn quality looks pretty good, but his toes are too long, and that in conjunction with underrun heels will be putting excess strain on his tendons and ligaments.

There's an interesting deviation/imbalance on his off fore - has he had any issues on that leg? Why do you ask about them, are you having any soundness issues?

well i have had concerns for a while then he tore his other check ligament (done first one in march last year both in field) so serious wake up call. so today got another farrier to come look and yes apart from one heal being on the floor and other one allot higher. he has long toes shoe not back enough and under run heals but just wandered what people on here thought

thankyou for your reply and may i say spot on (from what i was told today lol)

I think the farrier has done a pretty fair job given the condition of the feet he's working with.

They look painful to me, and scream caudal heel pain at me.

The rear part of his front feet is contracted and lacks depth in the digital cushion, this puts pressure on all the structures inside and if left like this at some point he'll exhibit pain as shortening of stride, lethargy when ridden, occasional tripping etc.

I'm really pleased he's sound now, and long may it last. Like I said, I think the farrier has done a good job, but he can't correct these issues with shoes on.

Looking at his feet I'd guess he was about 11-13 years old, and I shouldn't be able to guess the age of a horse by looking at their feet, they're the only part of the body with the ability to regerate continually, so should always look young if they're cared for correctly. Think about it.

thank you for your opinions i would like to no how exactly i am meant to improve his feet apart from diet and hoof products both of which i do and will carry on trying my best for my animals and how if his feet are so bad y farrier has not said or done anything i would take shoes off if he said to i will no longer post for peoples opinions or post at all for that matter from now on as some off you are fab and give a opinion and help and advice others of you sit on your pedestal and judge and make people feel utterly s***. like you have no faults and no everything and what ever your opinion is it has to be correct i no his feet have got bad but it is something that has come on gradually and i'm sorry i pay a farrier to care and advise me on his feet so i have removed pics and will from now on be a lurker.

 what an extreme reaction.

from what I can see you have only had helpful replies apart from those who haven't been able to see the pics! There is an absolute wealth of info on here about feet and people with a lot of experience, feeding feet (it would appear) is also more complicated than many realise. And yes we do all trust our professionals and it is rubbish if you think that lameness could have been avoided by you or them. This is coming from someone whose pone is lame due to some foot balance issues that I have had a lot of advice on from people on here and their input has been most welcome for trying to make the best decisions for him. (which I am constantly re evaluating).

im sorry i no it prob was harsh, over reaction and i agree with everything i no they are bad and i am totally gutted. and am now trying to help him as best i can with a new farrier. im not making it up his feet were always good really healthy but farrier started shoeing shorter and shorter and it became more of a rush job. i wanted the advise as to be honest i no sod all about feet. but it was the above comment the stuff about feet is fine as i wanted to know oppinions and how they recomend i can help with feed etc BUT the bits like 'if cared for correctly' 'farrier done a fair job' it is farrier that trims foot it is farrier that shoes foot how can i help do that ? if he had said look feet gone crap do this this and this and we need to take shoes off i would have said ok do what is best for horse ALWAYS i am trying to fix the problem but i no it will take time i am very sensitive about this as i do feel i have failed my horse

Hey, don't worry, I KNOW what its like to be in your position, I'm trying to help you. Feedwise, the best thing you can do is keep all sugar out of the diet (this is best for every horse), so no molasses, no succulents, and in the growing season, sensible grazing, not really lush stuff. Make up any weight issues with good quality hay. That will assist him in growing a better foot.

Look at good feet as much as you can, so you start to see what needs to change in your horse's feet, then keep discussing this with your farrier at each and every visit (as every horse owner should). Have a look round this website to see what "healthy" feet should look like - not mine, just good educational stuff. Even if a horse is in shoes, the basic foot shape you are striving for still applies.

I hope this helps you a bit.

thank you very much it does help honest, he is only getting handful of hi fi and literally a sprinkle of pasture mix until its gone and just Dodson and horrell daily vit and Min's then just hay more or less as much as he wants his weight is good considering he been in his stable now for 2 1/2 weeks as tore check ligament (prob due to feet well they not helped lol) . so i am now reading all feed bags as to see whats in them its so shocking to see even in feeds that you thought were OK are actually full of sugar. will put up pics of improved feet as and when wont feel so bad when they a bit better. i would have loved to have talked to old farrier but there was like 10 of them that turned up to shoe 5 most were apprentices and were in quite a rush and i would agree a time (i work full time so can only be there at certain times) but i would get there and would nearly be done so did not really have a say.
