As title really.
What things have you done that people would criticise you for?
My biggest, my first horse.... 16.2 ex racer, out of training about one and a half years. Tbh a bit of a nutter. We moved to a livery yard where I knew no one and had very un horsey family.
so what about you guys?

According to my nan getting a horse in the first place

I should finish uni first, get a good job etc etc. I should focus on my work etc etc etc. I think she thinks I should lock myself with a book in the house all the time :o

But then where's the time for the horse? :)

To be fair I can afford him now, he's on loan so I haven't gone out and bought one, I have a well paid job at the minute, and I'm happy. And he keeps my sane most of the time, drives me insane the rest of the time.

Jenny... How dare you!! Bare foot?? Get off my thread! Pmsl
Elsie... Could possibly turn out well, ex racers are some of the best horses, she's still young and if you have the space/can afford the extra mouth then crack on :-) but maybe make sure she is signed over to you to avoid future trouble?

First pony I actually owned myself was a 2yr old connie x tb, when I was 10. Worked out very well, she was/is every teens dream pony, I owe her so much.
Bought sympathy vote yearling with issues. From 2, allowed then 4yr old daughter to handle her with me supervising. Then at 4 (issues mainly resolved, but pony very forwards & opinionated) used 6yr old daughter to back & bring on. Daughter & pony now 7 & 5, & a great combination.
Years ago bought a very very well bred sports horse for peanuts in an auction car park. (not that stupid, I knew it was a big gamble). Horse had zero issues, except a very scared, novice owner who just wanted rid.
Probably loads actually, like the fact if there's nobody around I jump on mine in the field & gallop to the gate with no headcollar, hat etc. And allow her pretty much to do what she likes, she's more than earnt the right. Tbh, unless its criticism I can learn something from, I rarely give a flying **** if people criticize me.

Ummmm ... I don't know what Pmsl means.

P****d My Self Laughing in internet speak - or so i'm told :D

The most stupid thing i've done as far as my entire family think (besides anything related to being drunk) as to be buying my own pony at 35 years of age - ridden at riding schools for a number of years - never really believed I'd own one TBH.

I come from a non-horsey background - council estate - the very idea of owning your own horse only the preserve of the rich - only one cousin took riding lessons - some 40 years ago I might add.

I brought a 15 Yo Welsh pony who I adore - he's a handful in the school and can be a little spooky at times out hacking alone - but I actually enjoy the fact he's a little 'unpredictable' - he's a perfect gentleman on the ground though and my kids love to groom him.

I've worked with my little fella since January and been teaching him basic dressage which he's excelling at - he's only been broken in for four years which is a shame - he would have made a cracking eventer in his younger days. In the spring we'll be working on jumping and fitness with view to going out with the neighbouring bloodhound hunt - really looking forward to that. :D

He's a cracking pony and I so wish i'd plucked up the courage to be 'stupid' years ago :D.

Um bought half of the hoss I co-own with my friend - best thing I've ever done personally! Worst financial decision ever! He's a 16.3 -17.0 hh haylege eating machine with a questionable attitude! Love him to bits mind :D

If you ask my family, doing more than look at a horse. Apparently they are supposed to be admired from afar never touched and most definitely never ridden.

Buying unseen, (except for ghastly pic on Gumtree ) a total hatrack, sending money to vendor and getting him shipped to UK! Two years later, he is a fit, beautiful superstar!

err 2 main ones

- buying a 5 year old welsh x with a serious rearing problem when I was 14..probably not the worlds best thought out plan but I fell in love and mum was clueless. Little ***** doesn't rear much these days but is still a lunatic :D

- withdrawing from uni in order to keep my 14 year old 1 eyed event horse who I had had on loan for 3 months..but love what I do now and I'd never in a million years have done it if I'd gone to uni and horse is an absolute saint and a superstar so I'm happy

Taking my rearing boxing horse out without a hat even i think its stupid only did it twice then he caught my nose never again.

Getting married at 21 to an 18 year old was probably stupid.

Still we live and learn.

Leaving the Royal Navy early was a bit daft too...But life is life...and i'm sure i wouldnt have a horse now if i had'nt done these things when i did.

Buying my first horse... an unbroken 4 year old that had been left in a field for 12mths... from one viewing which lasted about 20mins... in torrential rain... wasn't even caught or brought in from the field.

Turns out he's a little star though, so I was lucky!

Barefoot
bitless on open moor!!!
Leaving her out in rain/snow/winter!
Treeless
Not grooming from one week to the next
walking her out in hand rather than riding just for fun and bonding
Feed her fast fibre-look yuk!
Left her rugless in the rain

Bought a nice little lorry to fix up and sell on, turned out the back was completely rotten! I was lucky to get my money back thanks to ebay!

Bought two horses, unseen and untried.
One will forever stay as a horse who taught me a huge amount and the other, though annoying, is my horse of a lifetime. Even though I've wanted to shoot her, regularly.
