So, from all the time you have spent with horses, lessons, time spent with top riders or riding traicky horses, what would be your top tip, best bit of advice or an exercise that you can live without now?

"Right rein, right leg!" - yelled loudly at me LOTS whilst out hacking on the roads as a kiddie. Sure it helped me avoid many a nasty car vs. pony incident!

If you have a horse that is rushing in its trot, change diagonal every 5 or 6 strides. This makes the rider concentrate on what they are doing and stop fighting the horse, and also stops the horse from getting into a comfort zone where he knows what is happening. I promise you it works!

Whatever the horse is doing wrong, its probably your fault.

Very true Vicijp!!

and my best bit of advice would be...

Cherish and enjoy every moment you spend with your horses, because you never know whats around the corner!!

Yup, that's mine. It seems to be the answer to a lot of my riding problems and a lot of people I know.

I've got 3:

If in doubt kick on

Ride like you've got a monkey on your back.

And probs the best bit from my instructor - "never jump the gate on a HT course, always get off, open it, go through it. Don't do what I did - jump it, fall off and whilst getting back on, get my spur stuck in my breeches zip"

The fact that my instructor did a demonstration of what happened in the middle of a busy yard - oh the amusement

There are plenty of nice horses out there, find one that suits you and don't perservere with one that doesn't, they are too expensive to resent them!
