Wow, honestly nothing good for sale out there! Looking for a potential Junior/YR for my very capable daughter and nothing! Everything nice is already gone, so highly strung that it needs to be drugged to be taken out of the stable or 3-legged! This is just a little rant but is anyone else in the same situation?

Or alternatively, if anyone knows of anything please tell me! We've searched HorseQuest, H+H, BE Horses for Sale, Horse Select, PC, tack shops, events and all!

No - but this time last year I was, so I feel your pain! My advise would be to keep an eye on Horsequest everyday and ring as soon as an advert comes on that fits the bill. The good ones go quickly! We eventually found a superstar within budget - I didn't make an offer just paid the asking price because there was a queue of people behind us and I felt he was priced fairly. They are out there....keep looking!

We're in Wiltshire - but we'll travel anywhere and everywhere for the right horse! Pref young, either an inexperienced talented youngster or a 9/10yo which has done a bit more. Though nothing ancient as we've been there done that - her current boy is 26! Whatever it is needs to have potential for int/2*.

Is it possible that the kind of horse you are looking for usually gets sold by word of mouth rather than in the open market? Could you find something through your trainer and his/her contacts?

Sorry I don't know of anything but have to agree with you I am looking for a horse right now and theres hardly anything decent ou there!

Yes thats what I thought. Her trainer knows of two - one is too small (barely a horse - just measured out as a pony) and one we're going to see this week, though to be honest we're not in love with it... It's the only thing we can find!

I don't think its a buyers market when it comes to the kind of horse you're after - they're like gold dust!

I imagine its a case of money talks, so either paying a premium price, getting very very lucky, or accepting a compromise on something - age, quirkiness or vices.

Good luck!

Friend has just been looking for a 4-5yo Int/2* + kind of horse.
The market is weird - there is a lot of seriously overpriced rubbish being sold by pro's out there! She eventually found a little Master Imp at a bargin price and a fraction of what she was considering spending.

What is your budget? We went to a dealers near you that had a mare in they thought a lot of but she was 12K, we didn't try her as she was over budget but I suppose it depends what you are looking to spend. Also might be worth contacting Andrew James, he has a couple to sell at the moment. Problem is you always pay a premium when buying of these people your better off taking a gamble on something unproduced really.

I have a horse for sale that might suit, he has done some schooling and some dressage and shows bags of potential. He is a sensible price, he is ridden by teenagers as well, PM me if you like and I will send you details.

Have you also tried looking on BD website for horses? I know most are pure dressage horses but there are some on there that are eventers or potentials.

Don't lose faith! I have just bought a cracking intermediate horse for a really reasonable price. You have to move quickly though. He was on horse quest which I was monitoring almost hourly (!) and I was the first person to call. I am in Hampshire and I dropped my weekend plans so I could go all the way down to Plymouth and be the first person to see him. The pressure didnt stop there as they had someone due to see him that afternoon so I had to make a decision very quickly and organise a vetting for the next day. They even had someone who wanted to fly from America to view him.

I think buying horses is one of the most stressful things to do, but act quickly, be brave and go with gut feeling! And there are quality horses out there at reasonable prices, you just have to wade through the rubbish ones to find them!

It's also worth sending a few emails around to big yards/professional riders - even if you know you probably wont buy anything from them its great to have the chance to ride a few in one trip. They will also know of things which havent yet been advertised. Matt Ryan was particularly helpful, as was Ben Hobday and Vittoria Panizzon. Best of Luck!!

I think for the best of anything you have to be first there!! BOth of my last 2 horses I have been the first to see them. Anything else I saw after someone else just wasn't what the advert said

I have a stunning gelding, rising 9 , just going into adv/med, hes a touch over 17hh, been doing dressage just 2 yrs ,he started unaff oct 2009, is very very talented, deffo psg material says his trainer. Hes been in training at a professional yard since we bought him, so he has work done with him just about every day. Hes kind, stunning, unblemished and not cheap but will talk a fair price for a fair horse, I wont advertise him so hes for sale IF someone suitable comes along if not he will stay where he is .
He was bought for a family member, who will never ride him, so its a bit of a waste really.
pm me if you want more details.

It only seems a buyers market when you are selling! we are looking for a nice sj to take up the grades 5 or 6 year old that has already been in the ring. We are in the south so every nice horse is in the north or 15k for a just backed 4 yr old

Thanks Amymay - I do have a lovely boy for sale, rapidly running out of time so he is not stupidly priced. 15.1hh (but stands tall IUSWIM), fab mover, 9 year old, low mileage as I have no transport but competed successfully when he did go out. He is on Horsequest, will probably be in the pricemovers bit today as I dropped his price again last night. :-(

Is it for JRN's? I've got a super one for sale - very established at Novice BE (double clear CIC* last year) and also decent BSJA winnings, he's 16hh but ideal as a teenagers horse as rides like a pony and very honest. PM me if interested!

Horsequest ref: 29356

I know this mare well, and she would do the job all day long. She has taught my friend a HUGE amount, and given a lot of confidence, but she seems to have a lack of interest because she is a chestnut mare!! She would have been going intermediate this year, but my friend is holding down a full time job and degree course, so just doesn't have the time.
