New Year's Day is about the only day in the year when I ride up the Main Road, for about half a mile. Normally I take the first turning possible.

What a lovely sight! The road in front of me with no traffic! About 4 cars went past and I think 2 of those were YFC members returning from the "do" last night. It is a chance to do a longer round trip and see some countryside I don't normally get to and it is surprising rural, with little stone bridges and old orchards.

Horse was like a 4 year old. Eyes on stalks, wanting to go down every farm drive and peering into gardens. "We don't come this way very often ............."
Wanted to trot as fast as possible to see what was round the next corner .............. And as for black sheep. We had to stand and look for several minutes because he had never seen anything like THAT before.

I felt very virtuous, having taken him for a 2 hour hack, a good start to the year.

Me too! Had to move my ponies half way up the country 10 days ago and took my old girl out for a hack this morning, although it would seem that my 18 year old with arthritis and other old lady issues had been replaced with a 5 year old who could apparently only tror at warp speed 9 whilst looking in different directions! The rain wasn't going to put us off either, best way to start the year I say!!:D

So lucky, weather filthy in Harrogate, my friend and YO took to teling the other liveries this morning not to plan hacks with me coz it always rains! 4 this week!:p

We were out this morning, but not that early.

Nice quiet roads and quite a few other riders, none of whom appeared to have hangovers. What a virtuous lot we are.

Orangehorse, I love your descriptions, my lad is exactly like that on the rare occasions we go out alone. We have to stop and gaze at views, plus every driveway, farm track, gateway etc is the most interesting thing he has ever seen....EVER.

Yep, went out twice this morning on my boy (once in the woods, another time on the roads - each time to nanny less experienced horses). Was done and dusted with riding and my chores by 11 am. Not bad eh?

Yep I went out on a lovely hack for a couple of hours :)

Well, mostly lovely....I had a stinking hangover lol so was riding to try and shift it but no such luck! Only just started to go now. My Dad bless him heart drove me up there this evening to do them as apparantly I don't look too great today....haha :)

Me too , I went for a lovely hack and was back drinking coffee at 11am. Although my mare is brill in all traffic is was nice to be on the roads and it be very quiet :D

I took my cob out for our first solo hack on the main road, he was very good :) So now we have 3 routes we can do alone! Onwards and upwards.

Me too! First on the farm: so peaceful - it's like the quiet you hear in your house when there's a power-cut, and you don't appreciate the silence until you hear it. Bliss!

Had a lovely early morning hack round the woods. Roads getting there were lovely and quiet, were able to get across the A26 both ways without having to wait for traffic - thanks to nice Mr White Van Man on the way out and empty road on the way back.

Bit drizzley, but great anyway :D

Hopefully the first of many in 2012!

I hacked out around our village (onto usually busy "B" road) alone for the first time in about 5 years....my sister and I had a near miss recently so I was SO pleased! Usually have OH on foot or another horse with us :)
Back by 9.30am - I can;t tell you how proud I was of my lovely cob :)
Still smiling now - we saw about 3 cars that were actually moving, and said Happy New Year to 4 locals!

Meeee! Was lovely, friend and i went out of our horses on our longst hack so far (im new horse owner). Was absolutly lovely but could only walk our bridleways as bit muddy!

I was out early (I am every weekend though, weather dependent) but about half way round a 2 hour, the heavens opened :(.
Then it started hail stoning as well.

Ooh, I was wetter than a wet thing I was :D

My girl and I did a loop around the farm for a canter or two. Although it was dark and damp it was peaceful and the birds were singing.

We sadly lost a much loved horse on the yard to colic this morning and I just needed to be alone with her.

RIP Axle xx
