So who would you put in the Olympic Team?

I'd go for Mary King, Zarah Phillips, Lucy Wiegersma and William Fox Pitt..
Not sure who as reserve, there seem to be loads of "similar level " others.
Have I missed someone vital out?
(not sure about the floor whipper, he could embarrass us if he did that at the Olympics!)

Luckily Paul Tapner is an Aussie!

Sharon Hunt was classy all weekend - totally deserves a spot.

As for Lucy W was at Bickenhall today riding babies round the PN hows that for dedication! The commentator asked if she had heard anything and she said she had not.

Oh yes Sharon Hunt, I knew I'd forgotten someone really good!
I watched her go XC and thought she did the best round of the day for me.
Thank heavens that whip chap isn't a Brit, I can't remember seeing him before to be honest.
I love Tankers Town, he looks so like one of our horses, and if it wasn't for the fact I doubt they would ever field an all girls' team, I'd drop WFP !!!!

They have fielded all girl teams several times in the past. Tankers Town is by the same sire as Rags and they are very similiar.

Anyway just checked it is 5 in a team so there is room for the 5 of them.

Don't forget Tina Cook and Miners Frolic, maybe as an individual?

Hello btw!!!! Came back last night, thoroughly exhausted but loving it.

Jade did well, not only to complete but to go clear SJ, that track caused no ends of problems. I hope they all had a good celebration?

I think pretty much the same as you HH but with Sharon for a team place and Lucy as an individual as Sharon has previous team experience and is ultra consistent at championship level. Think this year is a year or two too soon for Tina Cook and Miners Frolic as there are more experienced horses available for selection. Dont envy the selectors their job, Badminton gave the regulars a good shake up.

WFP on Parkmore Ed ALice Fp'S mother bought a share from Philip Adkins ( USA ) to make sure that the horse was under GB ownership ( Olympic rules )

Oli Townend ( if he doesnt get caught for doing something stupid ) as he was asked to rest Flint Curtis

Sharon Hunt deserves her place on her performance at Badminton ( Olympics is 3 star not 4 star )

Mary King on Cavvy

Tina Cook on Miners Frolic

Zara on Toytown, Mary on Cavvy, Sharon on Tankers Town, WFP on whatever he thinks is the best at the time, and Georgie Davies and Fachoudette.
taking nothing away from Lucy Wiegersma, who rode absolutely brilliantly all weekend, to me that horse just isn't as classy as the others i've mentioned, plus she did take 2 long routes.
Tina and Miners Frolic as travelling reserve if there is one.

Tinas horse has good form and is good in the all important dressage.
Parkmore Ed is classy and deserves his place with William.
Lucy forsure, she was superb this weekend.
Mary and Cavvy or Impy as he was super this weekend too bar leaving a leg.

Tankers Town and Sharon - reserve only cos their dressage isnt always great.

is anyone going to Houghton this year ? I see that most of the big names are going to be there in the 1 and 2 star but dont know who is in the invitational eventers grand prix

Anyone got any clues ?

I think it will be Zara, Mary, William, Sharon and Lucy.

With oliver and tina as reserves

I think have put so much money into th potential squad it would be silly to leave Lucy out of the running. and if you look at his results the are pretty impressive.

but would 2 rounds of SJing really suit him?

Definitely Mary and cavvy
Wiliam FP and parkmore Ed or tam if he feels he is better.
Sharon Hunt and Tankers Town

as for the other 2 im not sure.

I think it is a year to soon for minors Frolic- the secret Weapon has beaten him a couple of times yet people dont suggest him

and what about Ruth Edge?

[ QUOTE ]
BBs, why no Zara and Toytown? you have to be kidding! as long as he keeps his cool in the dressage, they have a great chance of a medal.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats the team I would like to see.
Sure, Zara deserves a shot, but so does the ppl listed. Equally like you say, if he can keep his cool in the dressage... i was thinking more for the sjing?

Olympics have eluded us for a while.

Its just my opinon

I agree with Chris King, he won so much last year with the *secret weapon*

Team

Mary and Call Again Cavalier - Consistent dressage, XC and SJ, very experienced rider.

WFP and Parkmore Ed. Experience, horse is very good at SJ and dressage, and proved himself winning Burghley. Rider's experience helps obviously

Zara and Toytown - big match temperament, excellent dressage at major events.

Lucy and Shaabrak - Consistently good/excellent dressage, consistently fast clear XC. I think her going the two long routes she took was sensible - he made a slight error at the round tops, so she was sensible enough not to risk a glance off/wrong stride, and then had the sense after that not to knock him off his stride at the colt pond (3 fences later), which she'd've had to do to get the straight route. Shows she's sensible and quick thinking, and would be able to take team orders to go for a sensible clear if earlier riders have problems. Think he's proved this spring that he can SJ to a high level under pressure (Fontainbleau and Badminton), and being a TB, he should cope with the heat. Also capable of making up time on galloping stretches. Plus still quick and clear over OI and AI courses when run for prep (Gatcombe last year), so won't get over strong/silly with no big fences to back him off.

Sharon and Tankers Town - consistently classy performance XC and SJ. Dressage might be a weaker point though - his best is in the 40s.

Reserves:

WFP's other 2 rides, as direct reserves for him, possibly Balincoola then Tamarillo
(1) Ruth Edge and Two Thyme
(2) Tina Cook and Miners' Frolic - Presumably selectors have seen him do 4* standard SJ and dressage - query would be how he'd react to a massive crowd/atmosphere in the dressage.
(3) Ollie Townend and Flint Curtis - risky for team event - FC's dressage seems to have dropped off since his big result at Badminton, and he might not take kindly to team orders to go long routes for the good of the team - all riders are in the team at Olympics AFAIK.
(4) Daisy Dick and Hope Street - good performance at Badminton - more consistent than Spring Along SJ
(5) Mary and Imperial Cavalier/Apache Sauce (if Call Again Cavalier is the one out)
(6) Polly Stockton and Tom Quigley - SJ looks a bit ropey
(7) Georgie/Fachoudette - Query how F copes with the heat - good at Badminton, got tired/had run outs in Pratoni, also SJ.

Nicola Wilson and Opposition Buzz must have an outside chance of a place. The horse just pinged round.

[/ QUOTE ]
I remember interviewing Nicola when OB had just qualified for the NRF.

I also enjoyed Vicky Brakes round, although cant see them being picked for the team.

Is Pippa qualified?

My team would be:
Zara and Toytown
WFP and Parkmore Ed
Mary and Call Again Cavalier
Lucy and Shaabrak
Tina and Miners Frolic or Sharon and Tankers Town

The first three should definitely be in the team IMO.

Mary and Call Again Cavalier, WFP and Parkmore Ed, Zara and Toytown, Sharon and Tankers Town, Lucy and Shaabrak and then reserves of Tina Cook and Ruth Edge.

Isn't it wonderful to have such a strong field to select from I'm glad I'm not having to choose! Daisy Dick gets my vote I always root for her because she was so lovely to me when I was walking my first PN and cacking myself! She helped me with my lines and was very kind and encouraging to a total stranger amateur rider, people like her make eventing a pleasure!

Has Lucy W not said herself of Shaabrak that he is the most accident prone horse in the world. I do think she deserves a place on the team by her fab performance at Badminton, but do the seleectors take things like this into consideration as well. Do a couple of reserves fly out as well, so that if one of the five on the team has a last minute minor injury there is someone to take their place.

WFP on Parkmore Ed (I did think he rode those houses badly on Tamarillo - looked like he was just coasting and thinking that all the hard bits were out of the way)
Mary King
Sharon Hunt
Ollie T/Daisy Dick
Lucy W

Fiona

She did - but he gets results despite this - at Fontainebleau he pulled a shoe off just before the dressage - she came 4th overall - so things happen but don't affect him too badly. It's not as though she constantly has to withdraw or retire him - no Rs or Es on his record at all, no more than 20 pens XC in any round in his career, and none for the last 4 years!

MARY KING – CALL AGAIN CAVALIER. Direct reserve: Imperial Cavalier
SHARON HUNT – TANKERS TOWN
LUCY WIERGERSMA – SHAABRAK
ZARA PHILLIPS – TOYTOWN
WILLIAM FOX-PITT – PARKMORE ED. Direct reserves Ballincoola and Tamarillo

Travelling reserve:
Tina - Miners Frolic
Second reserve:
Ollie Townend - Flint Curtis
Additional reserves, in order:
Ruth Edge – Two Thyme
Polly Stockton – Tom Quigley
Ollie Towend – Coupe de Coeur (providing Flint Curtis no longer entered.)
Daisy Dick – Spring Along
Georgie Davis – Fachodette

*Someone was talking about individual slots.... at the Olympics there is no individual, simply that the top three scores count...
