So who's changed their feeding regime in this weather?

My working horse has had his hard feed cut out, apart from a handful of alfa and carrots and his hay of course!! he has had his workload reduced drastically from 45mins - 1 hr a day with 2 lessons and a weekend competition to zilch!!
My yougster has had his increased as he lives out and needs extra calories, so he has had beet added to his pony nuts and alfa, and my semi retired cob has a few handfuls of nuts with a handful of beet and some chaff - she normally has just chaff with vits! she too lives out 24/7, yours??

not really... they are both on fibre only diets with a balancer, so apart from getting more haylage as there's no grass there's had to be no change!

very glad i made the change to fibre only - not only for the weather, but it's cheaper, and easier for my parents to cope with (as they feed the horses half the time and both horses can have the same), and Ron is (or was until it snowed) hunting with plenty of energy but not so much silliness!

Hard feed cut by 50%, hifi/chop etc increased by over 50%. Sweeteners - carrots/apples etc, added to both am & pm feeds (kept at home & taken each time to yard)
Ad lib hay - even for fatties - my elderly exmoor mare who usually scoffs for england has even found her 'level' after doing over 20lbs hay in one night- now has got round to leaving some on the floor (much as it breaks her heart to do so!)

Just upped the haylage cos he's spending more time in. His 'hard feed' is just a token fibre cube feed anyway to get his supplements in to him :)

Increased the hay, it is put out twice a day, but all my horses are good-doers....even the AA! Last year, they all put weight ON over that cold snap we had, so avoiding that this winter! They all get a hard feed once a day too, all cosy under their rugs too....:D

yep, increased hay, and halfed the amount of hard feed he gets! Have upped the chaff though, so he thinks he is getting the same amount :p

Haveut back the hard feed of the horse who was in full work, kept it the same for the retired oldie, and the other one only gets a handful anyway! Have increased the hay - all are out for at least half the day (despite the 8" of snow), with plenty of hay in the field.

B is normally on balancer, Alfa A and Tiger oats so he is now on Hi-Fi lite and balancer, J gets balancer and Hi-Fi lite so his has not changed. They are however getting more hay as they are in but that is just replacing the grass they would eat when out.

More than doubled hay and chucking a bit of haylage in for variety as well. Have given up on speedibeet as it is frozen solid within minutes and we have no hot tap at stables so have upped chaff to compensate. He's then getting a handfull of mix and balancer and a good dollop of oil twice a day.

His stable is in the field so he is free to roam as he chooses and has some hay in field and then a load in stable and haylage in a net. He seems happy and is actually putting on weight (never a bad thing with a TB). :D

Yep extra hay for both and no more competition mix for my connie, he gets a big scoop of fibre nuts instead with more chaff than normal and our companion is getting more chaff with her dinner too.

Upped Hi Fi Original for the sharp one and dropped back on his H&P cubes to about a handful! Also added in a calmer, just to be on the safe side!
Other 2 have stayed the same, good doers on Hi Fi Orig and a handful of H&P and the 2 year old on Balancer only as she gets choke, have increased this by 25%.
Impy is having an op this afternoon and can't have chaff or sugar beet after so he's going to be an interesting one to feed when he gets home on monday...still thinking on this one! I recon ad lib haylage, cond cubes and balancer?

I've cut Madams feeed right back so she is on a handful of P+P, half a scoop of winergy and lots of graze on, with added speedibeet to compensate for less grass! She's always on adlib hay anyway... but certainly hasn't dropped any weight!! :o

Only change I've made has been to go from hay onto haylage. Didn't mind that the big lad didn't particularly like hay when I knew that he was out in the field all day eating knee deep grass. Now that the grass has been covered I want to make sure he's getting plenty of fibre into him so have swapped onto haylage. He thought Christmas had come early last night!!

Hard feed cut right back, but alpha and sugar beet increased, as much hay as they can eat. Not been able to ride since last Thursday, did manage limited turn out till 2 days ago, but now confined to barracks:( So annoyed had just got 3 of them clipped
