Recognise me, that is! ;)

I had to leave Merlin behind when we moved up from Baden-Württemberg at the end of October and I haven't seen him since. I'm going down next week to bring him home (1200kms round trip:eek::eek:), and the longest we've been apart up until now has been three weeks.

So my question is:
Will he recognise me, blank me or greet me like I've never been away? I've never been in this situation before, and I'd like to be as prepared as possible,
so any hints/tips will be most appreciated! :)

Of course he will recognise you. If he is like Fany he will shout and shout until you cuddle him, if he is like Captain he will sulk and give you dirty looks for a few minutes and then come for some love.

I bet you can't wait to see him.

:) Thank you! I'll probably get the cold shoulder to start with, then!

And yes, I'm inwardly screaming with excitement, and the lorry dosen't arrive until the morning of the 16th! I know I'm going to be hell to live with until then! :D

My cob retired to a rescue centre. When I turned up to visit him they made me wear a crash cap (with flourescent cover) to go in the pen. He was totally freaked out and backed up away from me. I was really upset but think that he recognised my voice but didnt recognise what I looked at but I think the rescue centre thought I must have beaten him up in the past by his reaction - so be prepared just in case!

My horse is the most aloof, un cuddley horse ever, and she went away to stud for the whole summer last year. When we went to pick her up, she neighed at us, and was so friendly it was untrue. She also walked round and round our fields, once home, drinking up the views, just gazing at the views!

Yes, it would be nice to think it will be a 'hearts and flowers' type happy reunion. But in reality, I'm trying to be open minded about this, and accept whatever reaction he puts my way, good or otherwise.

Thanks for your input. :)

You must have been so pleased to receive a welcome like that. Just hoping I get something similar! :)

Our mare fell in love with my daughter who is in the forces, based at
Sothampton, every time she visited the mare remembered her, we always
had problems with or mare, mt daughter didn't
The mare is now happily living at Southampton with my daughter in a livery yard that backs on to the new forest.
So yes your boy will welcome you, enjoy

Yes it was nice. Possibly one of the only displays of affection I've had in six years of owning her. She soon settled back down to her face pulling and grumps! I'm an air stewardess, and have someone ride her when I'm away. There have been several occasions when I've gone down to the yard just as the girl has got off her, and the horse drags her across the yard to sniff me. If I go to stroke her she pulls a face, but she has to come over for a sniff!

They're funny creatures - all different. On the other side of the coin, we had a section A that was a real affectionate sweet thing, that we sold to a lovely home last year. We went to visit her once, expecting recognition and fuss, and she completely ignored us!

Yup, he will remember you! Back in December I went to go visit my old lease horse, and it was like we picked up right where we left off - even though I hadn't seen him in a year!
