So you are doing a W/T test because

Perhaps there is a market for 'dressage tests' where you dont get marks and ribbons? Just comments on your pony and how you could improve?

A friend of mine, a riding instructor, ran one just like that for a riding club.It was hugely popular. It was based on prelim 4 because w/t not around at the time. You didn't need any special dress apart from sensible, i.e hard hat, jods and proper foot wear so nobody had to spend alot of money on stuff they may not wear again. There were no placings and everyone got a rossette for completeing. For your entry fee you got one go, the judges comments and the chance for another go to see if you could improve.Brilliant.Wish more people did them.

I had my pony entered in w/t as she was still very green but also in prelim just to see how she did.
Before the comp she ended up injured so when we got there, I requested to be scrapped from the prelim as didn't want to over exert her. Did the little monkey not then walk calmly away from secretary before tanking off down the show field!! Humiliating much!!

The lady who has Joe on loan is planning to do a W&T test in the New Year - this is a massive step for her - she had her confidence totally shattered by an unsuitable horse and for her to be considering an outing is a massive step for her. There is no way she will have the confidence to canter on her first few outings so W&T tests are a perfect introduction to riding away from home for her.

its not the babies doing walk and trot tests that annoy me after all that's what they are for.
young horses and less experienced riders !!
and anybody else who cant canter for whatever reason!

what really gets my goat is people/persons who enter w/t ,prelim and novice all in the same show on the same day FFS.
.

Unless you are entering the w/t class to win ribbons, why on earth would you be bothered by which other classes other people are entering?

Surely there are plenty of perfectly valid reasons why someone might want to start with an easier class and then progress to more challenging classes through the day?

For a start, getting to shows can be expensive and time-consuming, and many people want to get as much 'arena experience' and judges' feedback as possible while they are there.

Sorry - no offence, but I just can't see why you seem so upset about this?

I think the frustration is people throwing their toys out the pram when they dont win - not necessarily about them entering the class in the first place.

I do W&T tests on my 17yr old TB - just because I enjoy doing them on him! We only do them at the dressage series that runs at my yard. I enter on him as I enjoy it, I want to support the riding club, and I feel that the old fella deserves to take part! He's lovely to ride and does a nice little test for me every time. (We never win or anything but always get sweet comments) I'm trying to convince my loaner to have a go - I might persuade her next series. She's do really well on him!

I do prelim and novice on my pony - so just have time to do the W&T first before getting him read for his bits later in the day.
