Have you even done ridden hunters with her?
 
Thanks Pastie 2 and sorry to make you angry yes I agree she is quite unbalanced and I school her regularly on the flat and get loads of tuition to try and improve that. As for riding her in with confidence agreed some of the classes on grass earlier this year I was lacking a bit mainly due to a nasty fall whilst jumping her but in recent months I have been very confident and am postively booting her into the fences and trying to get her weight behind more to help her along. I presume you are probably a very experienced competitor and I am not I am a working rider who lives for the time I can spend with my horse. We both need help and we will continue to ask and get it. It's tricky holding a 17.2 mare together when she is not feeling it! Anyway don't be 'cross' this was designed to be an encouragement for others out there rather than to anger people!! My horse is well cared for, I spend all my free time and money on lessons, and I don't beat her, overface her or hurt her intentionally in any way. Who knows you could probably get her going a lot better but the main thing is we have fun and are happy together so chill a little!
 
i havnt read all the posts so i dont no if its been suggested but a few points from amature me

point 1: your amazing for persisting and well done u

point 2: you need to check her a bit more, i dont mean half holt check i mean a little kick when she needs it and and make sure you put in some extra steering, im sure your doing all this but they are just extra things to remeber.

point 3: try some have a go courses rather then being in the main big bit with more pressure see if you can get more out of her in a quiter space but still at a show.
 
I made it private because the 'cc' was starting to turn into i am a terrible mother ruining my horse and making her do things when she is in pain. I know its hard when people don't know the situation etc but have had her thoroughly checked LOADS, have had some top people ride her and they all say the same she is an alpha mare and we will get there eventually.

Have made it public again now, so feel free to tell me if you think i am ruining my horse :)

I for one don't think you are ruining her, for what it's worth. It is easy to be an armchair critic, but I echo the other posters who congratulate you for your perseverance and stickability. I am no show jumper, so won't offer you any advice, but just wanted to say that she's a lovely mare and I really hope all your hard work pays off in the end.
 
Lovely sausage, and so spirited, I loved your video, laffed my head off at the guy jumping out of the way, and loved your smile at the end after a trying round :)
 
This is why I don't like mares haha. She clearly knows best, jumping over stuff is stupid if there's a big gap that you can get through next to it!! You're mad, not her :p
 
What a moobag!! This is also why i have never had mares LOL

You do drop her a stride or two out though- sit up and push until her front legs have left the floor!!
 
where are you based, I *think* you are local to me ( Berks), if so, you are more than welcome to come here for lessons,we have a full course of SJ's if you need them and I am more than happy to help you with her.
I have lots of ideas on how to improve her by watching the vids.

bless you - it's tough having an alpha mare - esp one that is 17.2!

my first pony was one - a truly stubborn GREY! welsh B
was fantastic at home - jumped decent tracks, well-schooled, lessons, the works.
had no 'problems' (back, teeth etc)

BUT - get to a show and she'd stop dead, rodeo, and kick the jump down!

We went to lots of shows (she was worst on grass) and used the clear round ring over and over
We also went to lots of PC lessons, riding lessons/clinics - all in different places with different courses.

She got over it - but still on the odd occasion would decide 'not today'
I loved her to bits and learnt so much
(she deposited every 'pro/expert' rider!)

(ignore the critics - they 'always' know better - pathetic!)

keep going - lots of lessons and lots of persevering!

Op i love that film, and the reason why is that at no point do you lose your temper and smack the hell out of your horse and you carry on smilling.
So from me a big well done and huge pat on the back, shame more people riding horse dont have the patience you do
 
Well as far as I am concerned it was very sporting of you to post this! Made me chuckle!! :)

You seem to be a very calm and sympathetic rider and I'd like to know what glue you use as you never look like you are coming off - jealous!!

Yes, some can criticise but personally I think you deserve an award! To keep laughing after all that, and keep competing when it's not going as well as you hoped takes guts. A few posters seem to forget how much time, money and energy it takes to keep going out and it's easy to get downhearted when things aren't going as you hope.

Good luck with her, she looks lovely in a very energetic way!;)
