I know that soaking hay reduces the potassium levels, but does anyone know if you should supplement potassium in these circumstances? My horse has had practically no grass, just soaked hay, for years, he does get Mg, Zn, Cu and salt but no extra potassium. Should I substitute some of his regular salt with Lo-salt (66% potassium chloride)?
Thanks. :)

No no potassium. Salt lick will keep potassium. Salt works opposite potassium in body to maintain equilibrium of each. ie if you have diarrhoea you feel weak etc and its because your body has lost potassium salts so your muscles feel weak, you then drink ie dioralyte which is basically salt and sugar in water this hangs onto potassium in body to stop it being lost.

Hope that makes sense. So no its not needed at all. Mineral block should sort it(non molassed)
