Other than the health benefits of soaking hay - does soaking hay remove sufficient sugar to make a significant difference to a horse's energy levels? I only ask because, as mentioned in a previous post, our mare is uncharacteristically more "forward" than usual and I'm wondering if it's because I'm giving her too much dry hay - it's particularly nice hay which our yard owner produces. Opinions welcomed.

Hi,
Soaking hay for 1 hour will reduce the sugar content by 30%
Draining, changing water for clean and soaking again will reduce further...etc..
Hope this helps.
Best wishes

I soak hay to reduce sugar content but I don't find it reduces energy levels. It does reduce hyper-ness though. lol Don't forget the grass factor.
