Hi, my ponies hooves are terrilbe at the moment and i am struggling to keep his shoes on. The top layer of the hoof is splitting and chipping off. Does anyone have any suggestions or miricle cure PLEASE!!!.
Phone your farrier and tell him what's happening - he'll know your pony's feet better than we will. Other than that the only thing I can suggest is keratex hoof hardener a couple of times a week and cornucresine rubbed in to the whole hoof most days.
Hi, had the farrier out and he advised cornucresine daily. No change so far and its an on going problem over the past couple of months.
Will give keratex a go ....... Thanks for advice
hi water them daily i expect they are better in the winter when its wetter we use a summer hoof cream the make may be effol.
[i use chinese herb ointment for growth you massage it into the coronet band my farrier was impressed with the results between visits its the massaging around the coronet band that opens up the capilleries been fab for my boy who had a gas line tracking up the hoof wall which gave him seedy toe and he had to have a lot of hoof pared away within weeks it had grown nearly an inch the bulge in the hoof wall had gone down as i said my farrier said that was the best thing i could have done was in the massaging. i hope by doing daily i will avoid any more foot prob this winter as he is a insulin resistant and has had lami for 3 winters this year, i have bought thermatex leg wraps and will keep his legs and hoofs warm he does not get lami in the summer but as soon as winter sets in he goes off his feet.]
It takes about 3 months before any hoof supplements work. Cornucresine is great for stimulating good quality hoof growth, but effects are not immediate. It really works and was good for my hands and nails too!
Hosing the hooves is a good may to improve moisture content.
It will take time for the splits to grow out.
Its frustrating as my horse used to have this problem.
